Sunday Synth Sessions

I had an idea. Last night I decided to push all my track making aside and concentrate on doing some new things with my synthesizers. I had been working on this beat for another track I've been making but for some reason it wasn't fitting together the way I had expected. So, instead of jumping back into it last night, I copied the beat, and just started playing!!
Anyways, midway through I came up with an idea. We can call it a community activity. Something where every Sunday, everyone will be sitting in front of their CPU blasting away at doing different things with their unit.
But here's the catch..
No Patches.. Everything Must Be Created From Scratch
Except.. Drums, Hi Hats, and Claps...
Write out a bassline.. Build Up Around it.. Break it Down... and then create another one...
Write out a synth line.. Build it Up.. Break it Down... and then create another one...
Use lots of percussion elements... Create your Groove!!
Make an Arpeggio!! Build it Up.. Break it DOwn... and then create another one!!
Oh!!!
and the part that's the most FUN!!
RECORD IT!!
there's a little program called VIRTUAL AUDIO CABLES.. Its a must have for routing Ableton into Ableton.. Or recording any audio from any device into another instance of another device!!
And why I asked earlier "how to"..
So, I had tons of fun doing this and I thought that it might be fun for others to post up the audio of them creating stuff in their synths..
I edited this one.. for time sake.. using all the same sounds I created tonight.. Take a listen!!
Now.. usually this track might be an HOUR or MORE.. but HAVE FUN!! AND DO CRAZY ON YOUR SYNTH!! |

use the response this thread received as a barometer for how you should perhaps keep things to yourself a little more. The way you create threads or use other threads to spring board your audio files which i can only imagine is some sort of weird attempt of validation is obvious, nobody likes it and you should cut it down or at least wean yourself. Say ever time you are about to do it, only do it 50% of the time. Then 25% , 15% ......
and another thing, your avatar, is too blurry that i get the feeling you are using it because a real photo is a lot worse. The fact that you use this one photo, on everything makes me thing you think i'm too dumb to notice. So either own your real self, as ugly and douchy as it might be, use some picture that isn't you, but please stop making me think that this picture , which i think you think is pretty cool , which by the way isn't, which makes this even weirder, is you. We all saw that video of you djing. We all know you are a lanky pimple faced dweeb which is totally fine. Trying to appear otherwise is dishonest and insulting.
so ya, work on those 2 things. |

Oh common. I lol'ed at the 'weaning off' of posting thing and the blurry picture comment but give him some slack. I haven't seen DJ Ryan ever say anything bad about anyone. Seems like a really decent guy. It isn't like the internet is running out of space or something.
It's an idea. I am not sure I would want to do it but for people who like synths, know how to play piano or composing live it might be fun.
Come to think of it, I rely way to much on patches so I might try it out next Sunday in your honor. |

my teachings are life lessons that extend beyond the keyboard. And he does seem nice. now just think , with these life tips how much more he will thrive. Its like you think i get joy from this. I am willing to be 9/10 times 50% of time, it hurts me more than it hurts him or others i share ideas some people cal insults. My insults, if that what you want to call them are trojan self esteem boosters. Maybe not now, maybe not in 10 years but one day, they will look back and think , holy , i get it now. |

I can see the merit of that. |

lol
really ? I don't like to deceive and well , i feel you have the wrong idea. my intentions are in no way for Ryan's benefit. I say things, go do , and then re read what i say and laugh. |

I'd like to hear some of your newer stuff L4C. Serious question.
You give some hard but fairly solid advice, that's usually at least 50% right. I still don't know who you are musically, though, except for that old stuff. Not really related to your thread comments, but my curiosity is piqued due to your apparent perfectionism. Which is a good thing musically imo.
And DJR, I don't think the idea is terrible... but I also don't think it's realistic. The idea itself is outlined poorly, (take a minute to proofread your posts so folks know what you're trying to communicate,) but moreover, I think most new people coming across a thread like this would rather spend their time continuing to learn. At least that's the case for me. I'm doing my best not to half ass it. In turn, most vets obviously don't need the validation. Not trying to be dismissive of the idea, just honest.
I believe if one is trying to get overly far in this, prioritization is key. |

I guess that's a fair statement. At least most of it. Maybe I just zoned out throughout some parts of my "Sunday Synth Session" and thought it would be nice to have a recording of what was being played. And then I thought, hell maybe some others would want to dedicate a day just to zone out on the synths and make them do thing we normally wouldn't try to make them do. You know?? |

TBH with nutcases like you about I don't blame him for wanting to remain a little ingocnito in case you might start sending pots of Human to the in-girls at his college with 'love frum Ryan, thought you might wanna rub this on and think o me' on the label. |

lol
i don't think being anonymous is something that interests him. I mean he posts his ing daily schedule in his signature.
And whoever said 50%, little low i think. Honestly, do find where i am wrong. It happens , very rarely and usually do to not reading close enough. |

For some people that is a good way to work. I know some producers do that. Derrick May created 'Strings of Life' after listening to a 'synth session' (not sure if it was on a Sunday) and picking out the main riff.
I think the exicted and care-free delivery of your idea came as a shock to a forum which doesn't seem all that happy most of the time. |
