My old soundcard - still got love for that puppy.

Few things to do:

1, Downloadand install the latest driver off the M audio website. DO not use the one on the disk.

2, Go in to your bios and disable all and any on board sound.

3, Go in to your software and select the correct driver for the audiophile - probably ASIO something.

I need more info on your computer, OS, DAW etc to help beyond that.

Good, but hang on, I've just re-read your original post and it actually makes no sense.

Are you trying to record a synth in to Acid?

It's been years since I've used acid but here goes....set the input on the track to record and play the synth. You may need to enable input monitoring on that track so you can hear it as it records.

Are you also saying you can't hear any of your VSTs?

Are you sure they are getting a midi signal? Look for the midi indicator on the VST that blinks when a key is pressed. If yes, then you know it's an internal output routing issue.

basicaly whats happining is when i either make somthing with a synth let us say a nice riff lead that you can hear on playback and i arm a second chanel to record the sound i have made there is no sound coming through for it to record.

so if i use sony soundforge to record some stuff the program wont pick up any sounds i play through the soundcard it wont even read any input at all.

please be gental with me as i not to tech savy

Ok, so I'm trying not to be too brutal here, but honestly speaking, you're not doing so great with the technical stuff.

Firstly, please be really specific with your language. For instance, when you say synth do you mean softsynth (vst) or actual external hardware synth? Otherwise it's really difficult to give the right advice.

Secondly, in your circumstance, you do not need a separate track to record the audio of a VST instrument. Just record the midi that you have played via your midi keyboard and the VST on that will play back the audio via the master. That's how vst's work. Unless you're trying to bounce the audio down for some reason, which can be done internally (either by using the bounce function or routing the output of the midi instrument track, to the input of a given audio track that is able to record).

I hardly ever bounce down my softsynths until the very end of a project and often I don't even bounce them at all - I just print from the master channel.

So what i'm saying is, play your riff, record the midi and let the vst make the noise. If you then need to make the audio file, to say cut up the audio for effect etc, then just bounce the midi instrument track down and viola!

yeah i can render the track with the softsynth no problem now only sony has a inbuilt way to record tracks but that problem is now solved so thanks for helping me rann
