Many of the big guys have people who work underneath them to engineer their set lists and so forth. Track selection and laying out tracks is the most time consuming aspect of DJing. If you have a few people assisting, this makes it much easier.

Not to mention, the big guys will usually create a few sets, and tour with them, changing a few tracks here and there. When you're a big name, matching the crowd usually doesnt matter that much, since you're dealing with a busy dance floor in every situation.

The hardest part would definitely be the 'go go go' of it all. Time differences, neverending airplane trips etc etc.

Heres a cool vid from Max Graham

umm drugs lol jesus. Not rocket science But those are the ones that are doing actual tours. Sum guys just do weekends. It isn't the worst thing in the world if you don't mind airports. criminals/promoters and drug fuelled sex with most likely a minor.

What the hell are you talking about? Track selection is something you do on the fly while spinning. It literally takes two seconds each time :wtf:

I've known exceptional DJs who, for all intents and purposes, should have made it large on an international scale, but for whatever reason, didn't "travel well". You have to possess a particular kind of stamina and personality to be constantly crossing timezones, sleeping in hotels instead of your own bed (especially if you have a family) and dealing with different cultures on an ongoing basis. Easy to say, much less easy to do.

so a guy with no close family relations would be fit for this!? :toothless

Funny, I'm about to have a meeting with a business man that holds the no.2 spot for the most amount of miles flown on Virgin. There's apparently some asian guy that has flown 10k miles more than him but he expects to beat him in the next couple of months. You can either hack it or you can't. You can either deal with times zones constantly changing and sleeping on planes, or not.

It's kind of what stopped me wanting to make it as a DJ.

Your life becomes a series of hotel rooms, bad plane food and sweaty clubs. I just never wanted it badly enough to have that life, and I don't even fly anything less than business and have superb taste in hotels. Just not worth it.

I was speaking to Sharam (DeepDish) a while back and he said the DJ life is ghetto; Ghetto clubs, Ghetto Promoters, cliched drug abuse by everyone on the industry and shady situations constantly.

I don't envy people who do it. I have respect for a lot of them, but in recent years, I've learnt there's so many ways to make that kind of money without having to whore or up yourself in the process.

Some of them definitely don't do drugs. For example: PvD or Armin

Some of them definitely do drugs: Paul Oakenfold or Ferry Corsten

Have you ever heard Paul Oakenfold speak recently? The guy is so messed up. It's crazy.

I think that meant digging. Hunting through 1000's of new and unreleased tracks to find the most amazing ones nobody has heard yet.
