Sorry for the continued GAS threads but i'm trying to get a large near future spending spree into some sort of semi final list :p
My orchestral samples are currently a little bit lacking so i'm going to be upgrading those too.
I've currently got the standard Kontakt orchestral samples, Kirk Hunter Concert Brass 2, Diamond Orchestra and Symphobia 2.
What I'm planning on buying in addition is :-
Spitfire Albion
LASS Lite
Cinebrass (just the core library)
I think that should cover most bases for now, although I do want to get Requiem Light at some point as well. I was toying with the idea of Symphonic Choirs but I keep hearing about issues with word builder and the Play engine still.
I could potentially look at individual VSL instruments in the future as well, but I think those 3-4 libraries will probably cover 95% of what i'd ever need. |

DAW's still dead. The PSU went bang as well (smoke and everything!), I'm on the other machine right now which is barely functional :( |

| What are you doing for percussion? EWQL Storm Drum 2 is currently 1/2 price. |

To be honest I'm not a huge user of percs in the more classical/score/film type stuff, but I do have Truestrike Tension, Cinetoms, whatever comes in Komplete and whatever will be included with Albion. I've probably got most bases covered there?
I keep looking at EWQL Complete Composer as it seems to be on permanent sale now at $999 including the hard drive delivery, but something always makes me say no. |

stay away from EW. Really not worth the money. Albion is a great deal. Cinebrass is as good as HollyWoodBrass and it uses kontakt which makes a huge difference. As a rule of thumb , try to go with anything that uses kontakt. PErsonally , i much prefer VSL and their player is not a piece of like PLAY from east west. The biggest issue i have with EW , other than the owner is the fact that you are stuck with this reverb. And because you cannot edit anything, you can't adjust the scripts so you are stuck with it.
VSL: is really the only option for woodwinds other than wivi but wivi despite being brilliant does not sound convincing in a solo setting. But with vsl, you can buy just one instrument, so for woodwinds, you can just buy a flute, an oboe ... and have those for anything that requires dynamic playing. LASS 2 is . I prefer it over VSL's strings.
I have them all and can tell you what is good for what and what isn't so good. it all depends on what you want to do. But EW is a company, with EULA and the tiest sample player on the planet.
I had HW brass and strings on SSD drives and it was still unusable. They have scripting errors, load times are ridiculous, the sound is just not something you can blend and like you just loose faith in products with that many quirks.
If you really want to get the most mileage, look for libraries for Kontakt that are not locked. Learn how to script. and you will be able to really design your own articulations. |

I'm pretty sweet on the Kontakt libraries too as I really don't want to get into learning several players for doing basically the same thing.
I guess what I'm looking for is something relatively affordable (as it's still a hobby when there's no income from it) that covers most bases. You've heard the stuff i've been messing about with over the last year so it'll be more of that, but hopefully better. Let's say I want to spend the next year or two making stuff sound good enough to stick onto some decent library sites, notwithstanding the fact that being good enough doesn't necessarily mean you'll get tracks on there :p
I think the three choices are made probably cover what I want.
I'm probably going to look at individual or group VSL buys in the future when I find out there are holes in my library. No point in buying stuff now just for the sake of it. |

they are having a huge sale on the single instruments tho. until march 31 i believe.
Albion is really the best bang for your buck. |
