Would not call the track from 2000 classic or the whole mix?

Thanks for your insulting thought bro. I consider anything a couple years old or older to be classic, much like many other DJs that drop "classics" in their sets, typically at the end. Those tracks are mostly 2 years old and older. What makes a track classic to you? Just curious.

Thanks for getting back to me about it. I agree that the "real" classics were the originals but, with things constantly changing in the industry I feel it's acceptable to refer to something as classic when only 2 years old. Take Markus Schulz for example. He does a Classic Showcase every year and many of his tracks are not any older than those in my list. He has been around and established long enough.

It's a pretty good opinion.

Trance/prog are not so much my bag, but I used to really enjoy Markus Schulz, actually. Armin & Oakenfold too. That doesn't necessarily mean I think they've got a particularly broad appreciation for what constitutes "classic" trance.

I just think you're going to run into a lot of resistance calling something like this a "classics" mix, and defaulting to Markus for credibility, particularly on a trance forum.

It's a wide world out there. Dive on in.

I have to take partly Blakes position here.
As far as I experienced it, a "classic" track is usually regarded to as a high quality track, that got a lot of attention in some period of time and is still occasionally played today. Meaning, it didn't disappear immediately, like so many others. You can actually define a "classic" for any given period of time, like a classic of 90's Trance or classic of post 2000 or classic of 2009, etc.

Where rdevito and RJT are definately right is, that this isn't "old-school". This term is only used for pre super-saw Trance. But Blake didn't call it old-school, so there's no real problem, but a little confusion.

So my advice is to add a period of time if you call a mix "classic". For example in this case: "Classics from 2005 to 2009". Having two tracks from before that doesn't matter. :) (although you did that in the original post as well... :toothless )

I do still like Markus. Not as much as I used to though. I don't listen to Armin or Oakenfold anymore either but, I used to as well.
I'm very aware that the world of EDM is vast. I have been dedicated to it for 12 years. It's all I listen to. That may not be as much as some but, still more than others. Anyway, I felt I was going with the "norm". There are other DJs that do "classics" other than Markus such as, M.I.K.E, Matt Darey and Myon & Shane 54 just to name a few. And again, most are typically no more than 10 years old. I do understand that if you want to get technical about then maybe they all are not true classics but, that is a matter of opinion. Bottom line. Thanks for the replies RJT.
