Hey guys

I'm thinking of buying an M-Audio Delta 44 or an EMU 1212m PCI. I've got them offered both for cheap money - just still really undecided which one to take...

My main goal here is to have an upgrade in sound quality from my SB Live as I am using it with KRK RP5's- from what I've read on the net 1212m is better in that sense than 44 cause of a better DAC, but have also found quite some info about EMU driver issues (clicking). The number of inputs , SPDIF and such are really not in focus here, mainly the usability and sound quality :).

Any advice? Experiences with them?

Thanks!

No EMU ;). Ever. Unstable driver wise (since it's a Creative sister company that makes sense) and hardware wise. 1212's can get incredibly hot in use for no apparent reason. Although the DA was advertised to be good.

Delta has earned it's stripes, a true workhorse at decent quality, could last forever. Should be really stable.

Truth be told, you probably won't hear the difference in quality between them, they're not really that far apart from eachother.

Plus the delta is a bit easier to use when plugging in additional instruments. I expect a full on studio when I come visit again :). Hopefully soon, but, you know...

Really? It's only own or the other? no other choices.

I hope the 44 is an absolute steal.

And yes, stay the away from EMU at all costs. I won't regale you with my tale of one actually catching fire as I reckon the 44 sounds better anyway (but there not much in it.

out of interest what is "cheap" for the 44?

The Delta is here and everything went smooth. The difference in sound quality is noticeable, the bass is tighter on the first listen... though honestly I hoped for a little bit more of a difference :D. SB Live with kx drivers wasn't that bad either.

Anyways, I'm happy to have completed the goal of getting a decent monitoring chain.

Oh and Shabba, I got it used (great condition though) for 80euros, while here in Serbia a new one is 180e.

@Matthijs bro come on over lets make some tunes on the 24th floor! :)

^ To what are you comparing the Delta? EMU sounds definitely better (clearer) than 44, at least the 1820m. Not sure if the 1212m uses the same DAC.
Branah
Soundwise comparing to my old SB Live, like I said above :)
The thing was I had both the 1212m and Delta44 offered for 80euros each, and was actually looking to buy a new Delta for 180 before... so indeed it was a real steal and I got it right away... Leaves me with a little more cash to invest on other fronts (screens, PC upgrade)
