Bal en Blanc - anyone going?
View this Thread in Original format

I know this is probably better asked in the Montreal forum, but looking for some NYTA perspective.

Going to Bal en Blanc for the first time this year. Any advice or tips on what to expect and how to get the most out of it? Do the headliners in each room usually play at the same time?

Don't forget to wear see through white clothes.

I've been 7 times, what do you wanna know? :)

Tips:

-Get VIP or show up early. Never, ever show up between the hours of 12-3 if you have GA. Montrealers are super-late partiers (most of their clubs dont even open til like 2am), so the line out the door will go very late. However, that being said: the regular bathrooms are always WAY quicker than the VIP bathrooms. Trust me on this one, it hasnt changed the entire span of time I have gone up there for this event. VIP is just nice to have couches, massage therapists, space to dance, being next to the DJ if thats your thing, and a view of the whole massive convention centre.

-Wear ALL white (not just part of your outfit).

-If you are a girl or a gay man, there is no such thing as being too naked. I swear to this. If you wear pasties, you will feel uncomfortable by how many clothes you are wearing. ;)

-Lots of gay people, people in costume, sex on the dancefloor (especially in the house/tech room), etc...if you are not into that, you have to get over it quickly. Go with an open mind and you will have the time of your LIFE.

-DJ's vary pending their schedules. I have seen headliners play as early as 11pm and as late as 11am. It really changes every year so there is no answer for that.

-Stay across the street at one of the many hotels there and ditch the jacket at home.

Bal en Blanc is one of my fav parties of all time, especially in North America. Yes, it has gone down hill a little over time (hasnt most of EDM?) but I think you are going to have a BLAST! :) :)

Lemme know if you have more questions :)

This is awesome - thanks for the heads up. You convinced me to try and get my hands on a VIP upgrade ticket to avoid the crazy wait and have a place to rest. I can't believe the party goes until noon the next day - this sounds potentially more exhausting than a night in Ibiza. What should I expect to pay for drinks (beer and cocktails)?

Thanks Again!

Ask Malek or King Louis in the MTL section, they always have tix :) I have always gotten in, in no time flat with VIP. But I always showed up decently early, too, because I knew better from years past. If you get VIP, make sure you ASK someone which line to be in, as the lines are so long and twisted that it can be a bit confusing. Have someone hold down the spot while another finds out the correct line.

Word of Advice: if you have GA tix, either show up before 11pm or time it so that you have at LEAST and hour before your desired DJ comes on. I have unfortunately made that mistake and ended up missing all of Above Beyond one year :( :( Also, the entire line is on the inside of the convention centre, which makes it warm enough to leave the caot at home. If you can make a run for it into the cab or from the hotel in the cold outside weather, there is absolutely no need to pay for coat check and/or wait in the coat check line. The line is all inside and plenty warm.

I dont recall drink prices ever shocking me, but then again we live in New York and in most places they are cheaper. Expect to pay club prices, but not "NYC club" prices. Definitely get a massage half way through the night. Nothing like a hot woman rubbing you down on a massage bed while you listen to some incredible beats :) Plus, it helps ease the muscles during your 12-15 hour marathon of dancing!

PS: just going back on the DJ set times, dont they have that posted yet? Seems like they would have by now. I remember Menno closing at 10am one year, and I wanted to die until he put on the most full-blast intense set I have ever heard him play. I think they are instructed to play hard at that hour, as I recall the 10am sets to be some of the best sets every year (Calderone, Preach <3 <3 <3, Menno, Sied van Riel, Deep Dish, and I recall PVD playing pretty late one year as well). The house/techno room is always banging at that hour, I tend to venture over to that side ;)

Montreal is amazing, Bal en Blanc is amazing. Its an incredible experience if you like massives :) :) Naked women, incredible people-watching, humorous and adventurous costumes, its en eye and ear orgasm. No doubt you will love it!

Also, dont be afraid to be creative with your costumes/outifts. There is always 1000+ people that will look crazier, more naked and more creative than you will ever have imagined. haha!
