Just got a Guitar Center catalog with the new AKG Tiesto headphones mentioned on numerous pages. Can't wait to see the reviews. I hereby claim the first funny review headline: In Search of Some Highs. ;) |

I'm not positive, but I believe that the new AKG Tiesto cans are intended for mixing/production work, not DJing. I'm guessing that they are doing the same thing as the Quincy Jones model - i.e., taking an existing model and tweaking it slightly and adding the Tiesto logo. |

Yeah, you're right. I just noticed this in the article in the GC flier:
quote: | These headphones are designed for all music lovers - from DJs to iPod users and laptop listeners - who want the best sound quality...Just as AKG's K240M headphones have become standards in pro and home recording studios, Tiesto hopes that the high-end reference DJ model of his new headphone collection will become a new standard for DJs. |

Well like it has already been said, at least he didn't go with monster to produce them. |

And here's a lenghty review of them by Bob Katz and Eberhard Sengpiel but it is written in russian and the link is invisible. |

It's interesting how the headphone manufacturers are using music celebrities to endorse their brand.
Of the top of my head we have:
Dr Dre Beats
Tiestophones
701 AKG Quincy Jones Signature
Not having auditioned any of these, if I actually had to blindly choose one, I would go for the Quincy Jones. Why? Well, Tiesto is a DJ and probably has lost 80% of his hearing already. Dr. Dre is a doctor of rap and cool, but I don't really know if I could trust his magic ears. Now, Quincy Jones, he relies mostly on his ears for his day to day life. I think I would trust his judgement on what 'phones sound great. |
