Ever since Avicii, everyone has been doing this. It's the rewind at the end of a measure using dBGlitch or whatever, and all the commercial tracks are doing it. It's awful. Why?

Probably because it's a gimmicky crutch?
|

and because the need to find new things to keep it all interesting

I wouldn't say everyone, because none of the artists I listen to pull that crap.

You mean where it pitches downward? I think it works as long as its not over done.

Yeah well it is def. a gimmick. Producer's copying other people trying to stay "current". Whatever, still think it sounds like crap. Maybe works in moderation but geeze gimme a break. There are better ways to be creative and original.

It's the equivalent to reality TV's tension hit, when they play that dissonant, pitch-bent tone at crucial moments that could mean a restaurant closing or a betrayal of alliances. I've heard it on everything from Kitchen Nightmares to Jersey Shore. Personally, I think it's just funny.

I think the bigger problem isn't that people are using that gimmick, it's that every progressive house producer out there recently just decided they wanted to sound exactly the same as Alesso and Avicci.

they DEFS didnt come up with that effect. I have heard tracks before in trance and house where they have used the same thing. I think that because Aviciis Levels track did it and that went UBER famous.. Everyone wants to put it in there tracks OR even if someone uses it now who doesnt even listen to avicii - People will now always say " your copying avicii"

It's not as bad as people putting loops into reverse. I don't know who started that, but it usually sounded terrible.
This isn't the same as reversing a sample or two. |

Def. from Levels... and now people are emulating his lead piano sounds as well. Really just awful. Show some ing creativity, and stop trying to appease an uneducated crowd who falls for gimmicks.
