How do you make live PAs more interesting?

Maybe one of these days I might actually get a chance to do one. I was wondering how else can I make live PAs interesting because all I can do is just activate loops on a midi controller. I understand that this has always been a problem, you hear people go "might as well just play a cd."

Crank out lots of destructive/and or audible effects live, make it interesting. Kaos Pads are great for live PA's and very fun.

No - please don't.

What the world doesn't need yet more of is cliched DJ fx layered until the music is completely unrecognizable. If we wanted that, we'd just mic up our mobile phones being frazzled in a microwave.

How about just playing great music, maybe extended version of your tracks then put on a good light show (hint: get to know your club's house sound and lighting engineers prior to the gig).

I used to run the lights at this club in Florida when I wasn't spinning. The other guy could give two s so I was like you go dance and I'll play with the lights. Damn, some of the most fun I had (besides dancing and djing) was playing with all them buttons.

i asked the light guy to take 10 while i manned like a 20 beam super lazer rig. Took me a while to find the patterns that aimed for people's eyes. I was high as a quite and i thought it was hilarious. I was also chucking water bottles and what ever refuse i had at anyone with candy or fur.

freebase before going on then lose your mind and start breaking gear then get kicked out of the club and arrested
