FERRY CORSTEN
(www.ferrycorsten.com)
Producer. DJ. Pioneer. Innovator. Visionary. Hes the man that singlehandedly initiated a revolution in a dance musicgenre -one thats long since touched everycorner of the globe. Having designed the Dutch trance sound, he propelled it into the clubbing consciousness and on further still into popular culture. From there he continues to innovate at every turn, working with vocalists as diverse as SimonLe Bon and Guru and has remixed music from some of the planets most enduring artists - U2, The Killers, Faithless, Moby and William Orbit among them. For 20 years hes foreseen what club citizens want to dance to and as an artisan DJ/producer, delivered it. Hes released three artist albums under his own name (with a fourth WKND scheduled for February 2012)and in doing so has captured the hearts and minds of legions of fans and scooped some of the worlds most prestigious music prizes along the way. Hes regularly ranked as one of the top 10DJs in the world, and of late has turned to charitable activities, working with the World Wildlife Fund.Yet through all this hes still one of the most down-to-earth, two-feet-on-the-floor DJs youll find. Hes Ferry Corsten.

i grabbed some tix too for next weekend.
Above & Beyond killed it, thanks so much for bringing the heavyweights to Atlanta yet again, Liquified is the only one pulling off commendable tasks like this.
I've never been a fan of Eleven50/Opera but I always saw it as just a small evil that is well worth having to deal with in exchange for having an amazing time seeing/dancing to the music from the incredibly talented ppl that Liquified brings in but last night was ridiculous. I've been going to Eleven50 since Liquified (and some other promoters) have started using the venue for good music, it's been many years, I can't even remember exactly.
Last night one guy that was checking ID's and handing out the 21+ wristbands was threatening to turn me away at the door because of their dress policy. No I wasn't wearing UFO's or kandi or any such thing that I remember several people wearing to that venue back in the day at other Liquified events. I was wearing a tucked in t-shirt and baggy jeans, he specifically said it was the jeans that were the problem. They weren't JNCO or skater jeans or anything like that, they were relaxed fit Sean John. They weren't ripped or look weird, just a regular pair of relaxed fit Sean John jeans, no way were they the baggiest jeans in there. I actually thought he was joking at first but it wasn't. The guy was a real hassle but in the end he did let me in, I was definitely a little stressed standing there with my prebought ticket and my friend who I gave a ride to the place. He did let me in but that was after I had to practically state my case and talk him into it. I don't wear skinny jeans and I refuse to wear my dress slacks from work to a place I plan to dance. I was confused and asked when the new policy took effect, thinking Opera had become one of those clubs where you have to practically wear a tie at. He said they've always had the policy and I said yes I'm sure there's a policy of some sort but this was ridiculous and how people used to go there wearing "rave gear" so to speak. He said that's not true, I argued my case with a calm voice, ellaborating in specifics. I could tell he was starting to believe me and he asked what nights they were, I said they were the nights that Liquified did at the venue, "ya know, the GOOD nights" lol. Then he finally let me in but for a moment there I thought both of our tickets were going to be a waste of money plus the disappointment of missing out on A&B and knowing we had pre-bought tix for Ferry also. Thank god I was wearing my all-black sneakers that I wear to work cuz they're comfortable and easily confused as nice, more business-presentable shoes or else between my apparent MC Hammer jeans (watch out, relaxed fit wearers) and sneakers, I'm sure he'd send my simple peasant-ass home.
I hadn't been to Opera for a good 2 years but for several years prior I was a regular - going to about half of the Liquified parties that happened there. I remember a couple people on here complaining about Opera in an old thread about how they were hassled over dress code and I THINK I recall Devon replying saying that Opera has a strict dress code for their nights, however on Liquified's nights that strict dress code doesn't apply... I'm going off memory from reading a post a while back so I may be wrong on that. Funny thing is, I dress far more conservatively now than I did back when I was younger yet this is the first time I've ever been hassled over it at any venue (I don't go to the strict dresscode venues, can't dance in that kind of clothes wtf). I definitely didn't appreciate it and I have to admit that.... I've always disliked the venue but now I kinda hate it. I'll still go for the people I really want to see but not if I get hassled anymore. Just thought I'd share my experience, this post is meant for Liquified to see more than anyone else so maybe I can be updated on what's acceptable in that place these days. I'm thinking that the guy I had trouble with was full of and just didn't know it. I didn't even tell him how long I had been going there and from the start he had a "I'm right you're wrong, I've been here longer than you." He came off as a real pumpous piece of work. |

First of all, Above and Beyond was here recently? Did I somehow miss out on something? Sorry to hear you got hassled. I always dress casually, but not to casual, so haven't had any problems. |

So, I did see that Above and Beyond was here last week. I am curious why there was nothing posted on here about it? They are a big artist, so that slipping under the radar seems pretty odd. I for one am very disappointed. I usually count on this site to inform me of events. Guess Liquified doesn't care about our business anymore. |

yeah i had no idea Above & Beyond were in town either until the night before. a friend of mine mentioned it in the middle of a conversation that they were in town the following night. granted i'm not entirely in the loop much these days but i'm still shocked i didn't hear or see anything about it aside from my friend mentioning it. |
