As for me they come from every were some times in my dreams I have compleat songs that I have never heard ever before , some times when I get strong feelings a melodie will play in my head . And the other is when I hear other peoples music, I will here one note , It could be any note than I will have another melodie playing in my mind that`s is nothing like the song that I`am listening to . Dose any of this relate to any of the producers out there ???? |

yeah i dont like the software, because im not really great w/ comps and reading all the is not for me.
i started w/ decks because i couldnt afford that sick korg workstation... so professional-like.. easy to produce, i swear w/in an hr if you know what you're doing.
thats only because i come from a classical music background (12 yrs of piano) |

i get ideas just in my idea.. sitting.. thinking.. little chord progressions. sitting at the electronic piano

Yeah I know what you mean about dreaming - I wake up sometimes in the middle of the night and start dancing round the room to some sick tunes that I hear in my head.
Damn annoying though cos I forget it before I can write it down.
I tend to start with beats n bassline and work from there all progressive like. I always have probs with melody - it always seems to be cheese. |

I'll have to try this out. ;)
I usually find that my best work comes when I sit down at a real piano and mess around. I don't know what it is about a real one vs. a keyboard, but it just "feels" better. Maybe that's 'cause I've been used to using a real one for so many years and I love everything about it: the weight of the keys, the full sound, etc...
Sometimes I just get on a roll. My track "Another World" was written in a 16 hour session. I haven't touched it since I added some things that you guys suggested. I'm going to go back to it this week... with a fresh mind.
It's hard for me to remain simple in my melodies, which is why my music is leaning toward more of an Orbital/Hybrid sound. And that's okay with me. :)

hehe DJ Pete, what did you mean about a tape recorder?
should we hum in the song in our heads... or describe the chord progressions..
unfortunately there's only one or two people in the world who can sing/hum multiple notes at the same time, like chords. (i saw it on letterman) :) |
