Hi! I am new to trance. Here's what happened: Three days ago a friend of mine (a death metal fan :D) told me about the trance music. I was very surprised to hear a death metal to praise electronic music. Nevertheless, an hour later I opened YouTube and searched for some trance stuff. Then I found. I was stunned. I had thought that the electronic music is monotonic and unmusical crap...
Now I can't stop to listen to trance. It's an amazing genre. So far I've read some stuff about the subgenres of the trance, but it's too confusing - each person talks about different amount of subgenres, uses different names to call them and characterizes each of the subgenres differently than the other people do. Weird :conf:
I ask you to give me a reliable source of information about the subgenres of the trance music. I also ask you to tell me what are the subgenre/s of the tracks I am going to link to. Thus I will know what to search for, because this is the kind of trance I like although I haven't listened to all subgenres yet.
Of course there are many more tracks I like, but I don't want to bring you a headache (although probably I already did :)).
Many thanks for your effort!
P.S. I hope it wasn't a trouble for you to go through my post. My English if terrible, I know. Sorry about it.

Your English is good.
I am not going to criticize you for liking music that I consider bad because you're only starting out and it wouldn't be fair.
But the problem is that there are at least 2-3 people who come on this board every week and ask the same thing that you asked. As a result, I recommend that you take your time to look through older posts and learn that way.
And by the way, electronic music, and by extension electronic dance music, can be and in many cases is, a lot more musical than anything "trance" and certainly anything that you posted.
Like this new track for example:

Thank you!
The track you posted is very good. I guess I should listen to all genres of electronic music. Thereby I will be able to recognise the "bad" and the "good" stuff.
I will definitely start to read the forum.
P.S. You, and everybody in this forum, are welcome to criticize me. ;)

Bad: Basshunter, DJ Cammy. It may be uplifting and nice to hear as a new comer to trance but as you dig deeper into the electronic and sub genres you'll find how poorly made the tracks are. I used to LOVE basshunter when I first started listening toelectronic, over the years I have come to terms at how badly made it is, he used FL studio to make his songs for god sake.
good: well really anything that's pleasing to your ears, however you'll soon be able to define what's good and bad electronic music just by listening to it.
Example of a song I myself think is good. It's modern vocal trance so this may not appeal to the oldskool trance addicts.
And to give you a wild trip, you NEED to listen to this song. You must close your eyes and listen to the whole song carefully, it's difficult to take a liking to. This is in no way "trance" this is IDM (Intelligent dance music) like Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada etc.

Thanks!
I've heard a piece of DJ Cammy's and Basshunter's stuff. Sounds ridiculous. :)
The tunes you posted sound good to my untrained ears. The last one reminded me a little bit of the music from Johnnie Walker's android commercial.
Now I am trying to figure out what makes you think that a tune is good or not. Obviously Basshunter isn't good. I wonder what makes the videos I gave in my first post bad.
I am downloading 110 GB of AvB's ASOT. I hope AvB has picked good stuff to put into ASOT.
Woony
You should listen to some ASOT episodes from the 2003-2005 era, you will probably enjoy those. And you should listen to some 2000-2004 episodes and then compare them to new episodes, you might notice a difference ;)
Oh and you're more open minded than most of us were, when we started out, which is a good thing. If you enjoy Trance at the moment, then listen to Trance, but I'll digg up some threads to show you what people here consider 'good music'.

Ok, so now i have to say: don't do this. Armin van Buuren support Commercial Trance (that you probably will like) but will definitely change your path through Trance Music and your taste for this genre will be forever changed :p
I honestly suggest you to listen another show, Global Trance Grooves hosted by John '00' Fleming. You'll hear not only Trance/Progressive but some Techno and Psy-Trance too. I can guarantee this show will open your mind the same way it did to me ;)
www.discogs.com
There you can browse through different generes of electronic music. You can sort the music by lots of aspects like genre, year, format etc.
A lot of tracks are already linked to youtube videos of them.

I was trying to say Armin plays the same kind of tracks all the time on ASOT, i just gave an example of a show with a different sound that OP is used to listen.
