Dance Albums In Decline
Know I dont exactly buy them, but I was reading a magazine regarding dance music as some of the up to date problems and it made me think about the current situation.......
Dance music compilations make up a 3rd of Album sales each year, but in the last 3 years dance music has slowly been declining.....
1999 35%.... 2000 33%...... 2001 31%
They say the reason sales have been slowly getting lower is the lack or really big club tunes. Now I know that these dance albums can suck and we have all bought the odd Ibiza mix but if you really think about it... dance music has really started to take itself very serious. The effect is that DJ's wanna be seen as great artists and start to explore new avenues.
The effect on us is that dance music becomes so technical instead of fun.... Where have the big tunes really gone...
Where is this years For An Angel or Binary Finary
Now I am not saying all new tunes are bad but with people like Tiesto no longer wanting to work with guys like Ferry Corsten because he has moved on from the Dutch trance sound, where does that leave the sound we all love so well?
Has the fun really gone?????? |

Well here in Canada, dance complitation cd's = rap/rnb/darude
I think less of them are made cuz they are all the same, or the dance of the old days, has evolved into trance and whatnot. |

So true, cheese rules the charts, check this out: http://www.billboard.com/billboard/.../electronic.jsp
Can someone explain to me why Mary J. Blige is considered electronic?
However, I'm glad to see 'Airdrawndagger' at number 8 although it should be at #1! :) |

| Although the downward trend exists, the electronic music market is still oversaturated with crap. Right now there's tons of mixes and albums, few of which are original and worthwhile. Just check out your local music store: Tunnel Dance # 342, DJ No Name compilation #17, Ultimate Dance #997, etc. So, this decline might not be a bad thing; as it might hopefully bring out the best in electronic music. |
