Just an FYI, hotels are starting to already book up. I have noticed with the intercontinental in downtown Miami you can no longer book on the priority club website. You have to use intercontinental.com

Z Ocean hotel in south beach is already past $650 a night for a standard room. You cannot book without a free priority club account

The W is completely sold out, to the point where platinum / diamond members cant even bump someone to get a room.

If it were me I would go ahead and book something on a flexible (cancelable) rate. I have already done that just to make sure I dont miss out next year.

The places that I have looked at don't have their schedules open for that timeframe yet.

As noted above, a lot of hotels don't really have their inventory open this far in advance....

I use quikbook.com a lot and they only are returning 2 hotels at all right now with any sort of result (a sold out hotel would show up).

Perfect Escapes which I also use only lets you book today through Feb 5th 2013.

but some with well know chains must open up per their contract with the hotel group (usually at 50 weeks). SPG properties, Marriott properties, and IHG (Intercontinental, holiday inn and Crowne plaza) are already open by now.

I looked at my travel agency tool though for the rest of the hotels and you are correct.... most are not open yet but for the ones that are, half of those are sold out. This has never happened before this soon. So people can either take the advice or not but at the very least there are some south beach MOTELS available for $159 a night which is a steal compared to what they will get up to.

Personally think the 'sold out' signs you are seeing are more than anything just to the inventory not being released...

What i totally agree with is that if you see a hotel at a price you like, no reason to not go ahead and book it now :)

Since I work daily for a major hotel chain, I can tell you that you are 100% correct. A lot of these properties will black out their dates in their PMS systems until the time comes closer and see what everyone else is getting for rates.
