Thanks for all the replies so far guys, I'll check some of these sample packs out, and to make meriter happy, I'll have a shot at trying to make the right kick, but I've already spent a while doing that.

Honestly you think the samples are the problem... like the most popular sample pack in the world is unusable. It's not about the samples it's about learning how to process them correctly. Tuning compression layering ect. There's no reason he shouldn't be able to work with what he has.

most kick samples require no compression, not the ones he has especially. VEC are ready to go. it's not always neccessary to tune kicks, either. indeed i think he should work with what he has as much as he can, but that there is no such thing has having too many samples, maybe he just doesn't like the way the ones he has sounds. and yeah *rolls eyes*, i suffer wildly from the inability to process basic math, by leaving out one year in an obvious equation. pardon me, mr. grumpy pants. 3 years, not 2. wow. big deal. you obviously never had any real support when you started out, or you were treated poorly and are now returning the favor. in the future, step aside for those who do want to help.

if you want real advice about finding the right kick, make it the last thing you add to your track

crush your track into commercial volume and then go about finding a kick that sits well in the mix

you'll most likely find that after a bit of processing any of those vangeance kicks will work fine once you've slammed your track up against the brick wall

completely disregard him. selecting a kick at the beginning of your project can be one of the best ways to start a track. this guy is just pulling some elitist snobbery because he has nothing better to do with his friday night.

true I didn't have any support, most people starting out then didn't have this wealth of information available to them, so yes I become a bit irritated when teenagers pop in on this forum and expect expert advice handed to them without working for it

I'm watching the Refused reunion at Coachella. Suck it I could've played a warehouse party tonight.

$60? Color me confused but why should a pack of samples cost so much?

Well, my guess would be that because it was made by deadmau5 and Steve Duda.

Its definitely worth having a decent kick sample from the very beginning of production cause it can be inspiring. Doesnt always mean though that that same kick will remain or work in the mix once the entire song is built.

For me, once the song is ready to mix and most of the elements are recorded I like to scroll through my kick samples while the entire track is playing, I do this in NI battery for two reasons, 1: its easy to load a kick sample in a "cell" then scroll through a kick sample library whilst the song is playing. While you scroll through the library write down the names of any samples that seem to work best. You may have a few, complete the process of elimination on fresh ears later on.
2: I can tweak the samples envelope (attack decay sustain release). Try experimenting with the envelope of other percussive elements like hats, snares, anything at all, you can achieve some really cool grooves and tightness just from modifying a samples envelope.

Hope this helps!

You're still asking with the expectation that someone is going to provide it to you. Honestly, it's only because of your age that you haven't been strongly advised to go into business with someone you've never met, before. Your threads are a source of irritation because they are asking to resolve issues that are trivial to most producers; let alone most people with an iota of common sense.

You ask stupid questions. Don't dither the issue with teen-aged rhetorical strategies meant to loophole your way out of accountability. People are giving you far too much leeway because you're young.

You might only be fifteen but you are already dangerously close to being regarded as a first-rate attention-whore.

And the headphones you use to make music, shouldn't be used to make music. That's the reason your mixes sound like muddy sewage.

Im sure the vengeance ones are good enough man. I believe some of them are preprocessed and have compression applied.
