Not everything we learn is right: Artists, folk "scientists", and artists are usually behind most misconceptions widely believed in our times... because not everything is as awesome as we think it is. Here are 5 examples:

What other historical/scientific misconceptions do you know? Post 'em!

I have no idea how widely it's syndicated, but we have a TV show over here called QI (short for Quite Interesting). It's hosted by Stephen Fry, and celebrity guests are given points for simply displaying interesting knowledge. Anyway, QI has a section called "General Ignorance" every week where Fry debunks common misconceptions. It seems just about every "well known fact" is wrong in some way.

QI is generally a rare example of a popular entertainment show that actually informs and educates, but in particular it's done a great job of reminding the British public that just because everyone says something, that does not automatically make it fact.

You Brits are lucky you have the Beeb! QI is awesome, and I can only dream of something similar being broadcast here in Brazil :(

I wonder how many times Lira has misinformed us on some subject that I thought he thought was correct? :p

Speaking of something a long time ago. Do you still have that article from someone named James or John that it was him proving Absurdism is definitely wrong.

Now, I don't doubt it is very wrong just based on how old the Ideology is but do you still have the link to that Article.

In the beginning there was nothing, and this nothing, having absolutely no precedents, was forced into originality and thus we have something.
