ram computer

Hello

hope you are all doing well...

i am prepared to be shot down in flames again here

but a while back we had a quik thread about a "ram only"
windows computer (fast ultra cheap-in-road to a music machine)

and it was concluded that you could not "save" the state
of settings in DAW's and such like.....there was no method
of persistance for the computer....

wouldn't you be able to simply use a free "ram/drive tool" at
the desktop of the "ram booted" win32 machine?. That drive
would then take an install of your DAW and other stuff
and all your settings and stuff would be saved when you
made an "image" of that drive onto a pen.......(that's how it works
here anyhow) (imdisk)

i can't see why this won't work well....maybe i am missing
something ?

Vince.

Why don't you just setup a system that uses thin clients?
Or did I not use enough quotation "marks"?

Ever heard of SSD?

talk about making things way more complicated than they need to. A 7200 rpm hardrive will handle more tracks that most edm users use. SSD well that is even overkill. Quit aiming for the best, and aim for what you actually need. You should always aim for something that is in the middle range. Because your top of the line computer will be in that range in a few months, and i doubt those few months of having a sweet computer is going to change your workflow.

Like how much time have you spent thinking about this ? I have a egg timer app on my ipad i use to account for everything i do. You will quickly notice the time you spend ing about with things that won't do .

SSDs are nice. Other than that it doesn't matter too much, just don't skimp too hard on the CPU.
