Ok, so ID Fest was OKAY. They had some bad ass vendors there, that was a good start to the day lol. The festival was rather empty to what I expected to show up, and more than half were kids. Not just kids but 15-17 years old would probably be the average age from what I saw and it was a MANGLE FEST. Sooo, many kids just melted, great night to people watch.
Anyways, on to the music...saw Static Revenger for the first time and had never heard of him, he opened up the main stage and was awesome. Eva Simons came on, took a minute to realize she was the vocal for Afrojack - take over control...she was ok, but not a fan of most vocal performances - kinda kills the vibe for me. Le Castle Vania was absolutely horrible, just horrible and played like 3 hip hop songs at the end of his set, what? Arty was decent, he got the crowd back into it but played the same songs I knew he would and HAS BEEN playing at all his ASOT sets. He's a great producer but not keen on his DJing, plus doesn't he just look 'odd'? Wolfgang took the night away with the best set for me, first time seeing him live. Eric Prydz had a lot of hype for me, but he fell short. The first half of his set seriously was mixed with the pjanoo tune going over and over, in and out of other beats. I was getting quite annoyed actually of him bringing that pjanoo tune back over and over again. It was awesome when he first played it, ugh. Well, the last 35 min of his set was a banger, sort of made up for it, but just short. |

Had a blast with you blitz and my friend that came with us. Great times indeed. Definitely was underwhelmed by the turnout too. A healthy sized crowd at mainstage (don't know what the dubstep stage was like at peak time) but it wasn't balls-to-the-wall. I think the lineup was very underwhelming. Arty is up-and-coming but I think everyone is starting to figure out he's just not very good at DJing and Wolfgang simply isn't in the same class popularity wise as the other big electro/prog-house DJs. And Prydz hasn't been here in years so none of these festival goers really know about him.
And I know I kept hyping up Eric Prydz but see, I thought he delivered. Yes, he did keep the Pjanoo theme going a little long there, but man, he just crushed that place -- thought his set was spot-on, especially considering the type of party and setting it was in. His lead-in crazy techno track was just insane, and I think a lot of people knew at that moment that this guy was very much different than the earlier DJs -- they were going to be in for a ride.
So yeah, I thought Prydz freakin' rocked, lol. Arty was blah but agreed that Wolfgang at least brought some excitement. He's not a bad DJ by any stretch. He knows how to have fun with the crowd and get the vibe going in the right direction, though sometimes he plays some head-scratching selections.
And yeah, agreed the vendors had some interesting merch. Lmao. |
