i have a really weird question
when you listen to a liveset of (for example) tiesto of armin or aokenfold
there is always something 'strange' with the sound. What i mean is the sort
of hall effect/delay/echo.
is it possible to create this effect with a program or something. |

If it's a live mix, there's usually an audience involved. In that case you'd like to hear the audiences reaction to the mix.
Normally there is a slight delay for the signal that passes through amp and speakers an is returned to get mixed with the signal coming from the mixing desk. That's the delay/echo u'll experience if audience is involved.
Everything else might be FX. :D |

99% of live mixes are compressed to hell and back. That is why you hear that pumping echo sound. It has become very popular to compress the hell out of dance music these days. Especially Progressive (just listen to any James Holden track). It is really a cool sound. Compression is used in all pro Studio recordings.
But...
Pop music compresses to a science, where most dance tracks are more for effects. To hear an ugly examlple of what compression can do to a song, listen to any Aerosmith song. They are so compressed that it is one flat line. Everything is the same volume. Same with Brittney Spears and Nsync. These tracks are mastered using extremely expensive compressors with Mastering engineers that have been doing it for decades. This is one example of why Pop music sucks. Wrapped, packaged, and delivered for mass consumption. |
