David Guetta: "Staying Underground Killed Dance Music" (pg. 2)

The way I see it:

1) Either you are making this "music" for the sole purpose of making money - you in that case.

2) Or, you are making it because you honestly like it. Well, then you're a joke - and you in that case as well.

We got a problem when the icon gets praised more than the substance.

Perfect Example:

If the track such as "where my keys" was made by an autonomous youtube artist most people would think it's pretty lame. They would think another annoying song.

When Deadmau5 plays that same track at one of his Gigs 90% of the people seem to be going Crazy.

It's peer reinforced hype, that elevates overrated DJs.

I don't like some 20 year old child telling me Deadmau5 and Skrillex is the best thing on earth.

They obviously don't know what the their talking about and have had programed in their head from their friends.

Ok ok when you're not trying to trade JOs and mp3s you're legit. Kudos and:

Who cares what Guetta has to say. He's top 40 music and most people here don't listen to top 40 so why even discuss his opinion. If Bieber tried to give you his 2c on EDM you would laugh... this should be treated roughly the same way

Not all top 40 is crap.

I don't mind droping a track like Taio Cruz - Break Your Heart, or T.I. feat. Rihanna - Live your Life at a party once in a while

Just as long as a good portion is real EDM.

To play most corny top 40, is just selling out or being too lazy to discover the underground.

Guetta's parents originally frowned upon his choice of career. "My parents were extreme left," he says, "so everything was against the system. I was walking barefoot in the streets of Paris when I was eight. When I started to DJ they hated it, because for them, nightclubs, and all of this life, was terrible and fake. But when I stopped doing only this, and became an artist, my mother was like 'OK, now I'm proud of you.' Which is crazy."
