protools shines when you have the hardware and it is an extremely robust and stable system. That is why protools is still used and the fact that it is what people exepct. Other than that, i don't see the point. It is not EDM friendly, your version won't be stable , that sound interface is garbage ....

not quite what you wanted but ya, i strongly suggest against protools unless you are doing tracking, huge projects, and have the hardware. There really is no learning curve. It is intuitive and simple. But simple for EDM is not really a good thing.

If you have a mac, use logic. If you have a pc, use cubase. if you like to make glitchy edm stuff, use ableton. That is my advice for people that don't yet have a preference. For someone not running a commercial studio, i don't see the point.

Then PT is not the answer as L4C pointed out.

Just use cubase or logic. Problem solved.

I use Pro Tools 9 (full version, not MP or whatever) and I more or less agree with the comments above. I wouldn't say that it's not EDM-friendly, as I've completed EDM songs with it, but it's not as EDM-friendly as other DAWs. PT is definitely stronger in the audio arena than it is in the MIDI arena, but I've found that I actually like many things about how MIDI is implemented in PT. It has a reputation that it is terrible for MIDI, which is primarily due to how bad it was prior to v7.X (7.4 IIRC), but it has made tremendous strides since then.

A few very important things to consider:

- PT is 32-bit only and no one has any clue when it will be 64-bit. A good bet is that the next version will be 64-bit, since that's what their new AAX plugin format was designed to do, but I wouldn't bet my house on that. So, if you are using romplers, samplers, or anything else that uses a lot of RAM, be prepared for RAM-limitation issues. A couple of workarounds include using a 64-bit subhost, such as VSL or Kore, but that's an added expense and headache.

- I'm not sure which plugin format that version of PT supports. If it's RTAS, you'll probably find that most major software developers have RTAS versions; however, RTAS is a notoriously inefficient format. FXpansion makes a VST/RTAS wrapper that you can buy ($99 IIRC) for your non-RTAS plugins, but it's obviously an added cost and not all plugins work with it. If that PT versions supports the newer AAX format, you'll probably find that very few developers have updated their software to include AAX.

- I believe that even the MP version requires iLok??? That's not a concern for me, but it is for others.
