Basically the black keys are speaking about how they turned down 200,000 british pounds when they were broke because they thought that would be selling out.
In my opinion, if a company offers you $ to license your original track to advertize their product and you don't have to edit it or include some extra verse about how great that specific brand is, it's definitely not selling out, that's actually a big achievement! Some company wants to use your art to tie to their brand for advertizing, you must be doing something right. All the better if your music is kick ass and honest like the black keys.
I'm not talking about making a ty guetta record for the specific goal of getting a licensing deal. I'm saying if you made creative music and all of a sudden it's popular, like Bon iver or someone.
What do you guys think about this. I'd be super honored if even the smallest of companies wanted to license music that I make in my basement for no money.

Maybe they didn't want to endorse what the company proposing the licensing agreement sold? Because they sure as heck had no problem licensing Tighten Up to Molson before the album was released.
seems like selling out would include endorsing a product that kills more people a year than aids and cancer combined n'est-ce pas? just sayin'.

although 1 Million $ is a life-changing amount of money, especially if you were to donate it to those in need or less fortunate.
