No. J00F very very rarely plays goa. Pretty much never. John plays a progressive trance type sound that has elements of psytrance on his radio show. Depending on how he feels he can play anything from progressive trance, to progressive psytrance, to full-on psytrance.

I dont know the difference between Goa and Psy. Trance isnt my specialty.

They are two sides of the same coin, really. Goa is more based on very classic and basic 303/acid/moogy synths, where melodies smoothly flow up and down the frequency spectrum and the track has a shamanic, tribal, or ethnic feel. Psytrance comes in many different forms, but for the most part, has a more serious, fuller sound and newer sounding synths. The sampling arrangement in psytrance is also generally more complex than in Goa. Here are some examples:

lol. I wasn't sure if it was just me not being able to see the rest of the thread.

It looks like he just tried to quote your post from what I can see.

Thanks man, that was really helpful!

Heh, good to know the thread isn't completely screwed. Only mine and ziptnf's posts are missing, and JonDC's post is strange.

Euforix: That's my feeling of the differences as well: Goa Trance being more melodic and organic (very often Eastern-influenced melodies), Psy Trance being more metallic and effects-heavy.

Thanks man. It seems like I would be able to ID Psy in a club because it has that machine gun sound to it, and the very distinguished kick drum with extra mid range punch on it.

Do you have any other clips that are pure Goa that would mind linking me to so that I can do more comparisons to Psy?
Mattsanity.
psy trance = poor man's goa trance

LOL yea it doesnt literally sound like a machine gun, its just that alot of psy tracks have a rolling "middle bass" and that combined with the kick for some reason made me say machine gun. LOL I dont know man. Psy is an awesome genre I'll leave it at that.

I will check your clips tonight thanks for hooking it up!
