And here I thought "Trouse" was a derogatory term used to make fun of the genre of music.

i am happy with that. i wish it actually catches on and that music gets categorized as that.it will help identify a certain sounds. i mean what is progressive house nowadays?

if a person said.. a dj is playing progressive house, you would need the name of that dj to figure out which kind of it he plays. What is the purpose to call something progressive house?

Does it fall on the house catagory? is it on the trance category? is it in between aka trouse? I think Beatport and the rest of record labels should come with more specific genres now.

Same goes for techno. almost any sound is labeled as techno.. but is it deep? is it more tech-housy? is it borderline to minimal? does it progress with peaks? is it acid? does it go to the harder side?

well i call trouse music anything that has pitch moduletion involved, even if trance sounds are dominant aka that armin song i posted before and Tech-prog house the something that has no pitch alter

hmm maybe i should provide examples

tech-prog house i would consider this:
Jaytech - Atlantic

Full Tilt - Take Me Away (Original Mix)

Tech-prog trance
Orbion - Reasons To Forgive (Original Mix)

i dunno, maybe after i educate my self better i will categorize them differently. anyone has any tips?

Trouse was actually coined by Matthew Dekay years ago and doesn't sound anything like the crap in that compilation.

a genre is hard to label nowadays..it's been derived in so many ways and everyone adds their own unique sound/touch that you don't really know what it is. even then, what someone might label as "minimal", another will call it "techno". very few that stick to the basics and it's simplicity.

On the techno side, it's fun to go through my tracks from two years ago and hear what I considered "techno".

Now I have to tag everything with Berlin/minimal/mnml/prog/acid/upbeat/dub/hard/detroit/dark/house and usually more than one.

Like Dusty Kid I call tech-house but also Luciano, and they sound nothing the same, but we simply lack the vocabulary.

Nickelback and GWAR are also "rock" music...it's not confined to electronic music.

P.S. Love both Dusty Kid and Luciano, though Dusty Kid severely disappointed me at Electric Zoo.

avicii says, "I can't play house for more than two hours."

This is pretty lame, and the fact that its coming from a pretty respectable label surprises me.

I always thought 'Trouse' was a name you used to make fun of tracks that fit a certain musical mold...and a not very good mold at that. Basically tracks that have those big, cheesy chord stab melodies.

Listened to the track samples too. The Rank 1 track is the only one thats listenable IMO. Kind of a sad state of affairs really...
