Is Trance too old now?

I was at a local Animu Convention and there is this mini-rave-like dance. It is setup somewhat like a rave, but we wanna be "professional" and just call it a dance. This is what it looked like:

Now at this dance I was appointed "manager" and made sure things were running right. I was not the DJ, but I was given privilege to suggest songs if "DJs were okay with taking requests."
It was a great weekend (because the dance was the entire weekend at night). However there were some people (like me and a few others) who got bored fairly quickly of the type of tracks that were playing. Since it was an Animu Convention, they played J-Pop / J-House / J-Dubstep with all these crazy songs. There was a lot of Happy Hardcore too being played at 150-170 BPM.
It was cool and refreshing, but that's all they played from 8 PM to 4 AM in the morning... and man, I just got so :o :o :o :o after a while.
So I just wanted to ask. Is Trance getting to old now? I find that only I am the weirdo who enjoys the acid era and gateway era Trance. I mean, after a night of 160 BPM, at the very end I managed to request The Quest - C Sharp at 136 BPM and it felt so slow. but I think that's only because of shifting a transition from 160 BPM for 7 hours straight and then back down to 136 can be strange.
But yeah, I find that nobody is really into Trance anymore. we are like a minority, and some of us on here WERE Trance addicts but they grew out of it too. so with these people, I find that Trance is not even acknowledged. when I mention trance they think of ASOT #934895....
is trance just too old now be able to listen to? |

| Trends come and go. The trance trend has been over for roughly a decade, and the cleverer artists who played a role it in either moved on to something they thought was more "credible" like techno, or else branched out into making pop music with trance flavors. |

Yeah you're right.
not only that, they also seem to not have the patience to listen to it. they have the attention span of 30 seconds MAX and then they turn their heads away and talk about something else.
which always made me thought that trance was more of a challenge to the listener because to fully enjoy it you must listen thoroughly for 7 minutes straight and thats just for ONE track. but that is a whole other talk...
but yeah, most of them are my age (age 20~25) and they weren't old enough in 1996-2001 to enjoy to good stuff.
they dont know epic floor hitters like Blood Is Pumping. that song is insane enough to blow a crowd out of their minds! |

| Trance has been dead since 1994. Still it's pouring in newbies in this forum. |

This is what bugs me the most, to be honest.
When one mentions Trance, others think of artists like Gareth Emery and Armin; unfortunately, these artists have very little to do with trance.

| ....funny, trance is too old, but house and techno isn't....hmmm...and yes, trance maybe is barely alive, because of people like the idiots who run ASOT and TOW and their in' fans, but trance has certainly not been dead since 1994. |

House music has been there since the 70's I guess that must be too old then? No offence but what a stupid question to ask.

There are people who thought trance died when Dutch Trance (i.e. Rank 1 - Airwave) became popular.
There are people that think trance died around 2005 when Tiesto and Armin started selling out arenas and making their productions more commercial.
There are people who think trance died around 2009 and that "State of Trance 2008" is the "best compilation of all-time".
A lot of it depends on age. Genres evolve and change. What I consider classic trance (Magik, Boundaries of Imagination, Summerbreeze, ISoS 1-3, etc.) is, to many, when trance started to go wrong. Some of the newer fans don't get into it nearly as much, because for them it started in 2007-2008.
At Above & Beyond shows, you can already see a younger (18-20 year old) generation of fans who are just now getting into it, and to them "Sun & Moon" will be their "classic trance", no matter how much the rest of us insist it's just a pop song.
Trance isn't too old, or dead, or going anywhere. It's just changing, and the tastes of every age group will change slightly from the last.
i.e. "Damn kids and their rock n' roll music!" |

It's been dead since the PS2 used the ocean loop in it's system menu. |
