Join us for another installment of our monthly techno, tech-house and minimal jam. This time Toronto's own PAUZE (www.djpauze.com) graces us with his skills behind the decks and Rhythmethod label-head Mason Bach prepares a very special Live PA while Scott Totem and Guyvr round out the evening. Real-time Visuals provided by nVoid Art-Tech Limited.

$10 cover / $5 with Guestlist

PAUZE:

Pauze has dedicated his life to the underground. He is currently living in Toronto, where he runs Hardsignal Recordings (www.hardsignal.net
), one of the biggest and most prominent labels in hard techno. Known for his accuracy in mixing and blending, and a keen ability to read the crowd, Pauze is working hard to promote the hard techno and techno sound and open people’s minds to getting some pumping beats back into the Canadian scene. He is also venturing into solo production, working vigorously with the goal of reaching new levels in quality of sound.

MASON BACH (Live PA):

To experience a Mason Bach live performance is to witness an artist with a seemingly unending enthusiasm for his craft. Trying to stop this man in any way from feverishly bouncing up and down over his laptop and arsenal of MIDI gadgets during one his shows would be a truly unwise choice. The uninitiated can’t help but notice his gleaming ear to ear grin, which lasts from the second he begins his set until well after his encore track. For devotees on the other hand, this only further proves something he’s already well-acknowledged for; there’s absolutely nothing Mason Bach finds more exhilarating than performing a slamming live techno set. Currently he works out of his studio in Toronto and balances his time between his own production, working with new and emerging artists and managing his own imprint, Rhythmethod Recordings.

SCOTT TOTEM:

Of all the varied attempts at describing his sound, Scott Totem has been named funky, soulful, shuffly, deep, minimal, raw and adventurous – but without question, the essence of this artist’s work can be most accurately defined as “abstract.” Weaving between styles without so much concern for a song’s genre, he is seemingly more interested in using the raw sounds within each track like an oil painter uses a pallet knife to smear shapes, colours and transitions across a canvas. He was a devoted painter himself, before he hurriedly cast away the paintbrush in exchange for turntables and a mixer after attending his first Toronto rave. It was his dissatisfaction with the static visual art form that pushed him towards viewing music as the ultimate form of expression and the most direct exploration of the intangible. Behind the decks he is clearly unafraid to take stylistic and technical risks. His mixes are bold, persistent and musical. Consisting of tribal flourishes, slicing techno beats, guttural synths and primal sounds, the Scott Totem signature sound is complex and rhythmic yet unmistakably groovy.

GUYVR:

At first glance, Guyvr might appear like a newcomer to the underground music scene. His fresh outlook on beats, culture and people coming together to dance under one roof reminds us of those innocent days when we first got hooked on electronic music. His sense of style and swagger resonates with a vibe we didn’t even know was possible in a busy Canadian city like Toronto. But Joe Ha, the man behind Guyvr, is definitely no stranger to this town, and certainly no stranger to setting the floors on fire with his unique, precise blend of minimal, tech-house and techno. A Guyvr DJ set is more than just a steady beat. His music carries a positive message and communicates a deliberate story – one that bows respectfully to our heroes and root influences, yet points directly to where we’re headed next.
