It's a lovely sounding track, but having a hard time figuring out why the average selling price for this sits around $150 USD. Ear of the beholder, I suppose.
Anyone else sitting on a mini-goldmine that's somewhat of a headscratcher, value-wise?
(*Backstory is that I actually scored it gratis, when a friend who owned a record store I once worked at dumped his last 2,000 pieces of stock on me to sell, while he prepped to jet off to India - I haven't seen him since.)

Aren't all Soul Capsule releases expensive? I remember a few months back wanting to buy the Overcome EP. There was only one copy at the time from a Portuguese guy wanting a heft 500€ for it.
Other than that, rarity I supposed. Some KDJ releases are expensive as hell also, as well as some old-school Derrick May bootlegs. Don't really know any other.

The price of records can also be dictated by rarity as well as music quality, in fact often are so. Remember that vinyl enthusiasts are just like any collector of artifacts. Is there something about that Soul Capsule release that makes it a collector's item? (limited quantities, musical importance, etc.)
PivotTechno
Decided there are several other records out there I'd rather have in lieu of this one, so up she goes...

it's funny watching all the 'collecters' trying to get their original copy's sold as fast as possible before the re-press comes out... it separates those who collect vinyl purely for the music and those who sadly collect vinyl just to fill their back pocket... i mean what kind of techno head would ever give up the chance of hearing the lady science (tek mix) again?? this release will be kept close to my heart for the rest of my life..... then passed on to my kids when they understand the true quality of music. :-) peace to all those who understand and have not been brainwashed by this mindless generation

That Soul Capsule is expensive because it is out of print and one of the genre defining tracks regarding tech house of that period. I have 2:p There are way more expensive records than that. If something does not exist anymore, and there is a demand...price goes up.
The Meltdown Dub never gets talked about, but it is a great cut.

They aren't collectors though. Discogs has a marketplace, therefore some people are there for money. Who cares? It makes the site much better, and you can negotiate prices if you buy a lot. Collectors you trade with. They won't sell anything. I don't. If you don't live in Berlin or London where record stores are still awesome and don't get releases weeks after they are released...without the sellers there would be no way for the passionate collectors to buy them.
ps static? clean your ing records when you use them bro. you won't get 150 pitching it that way without the original sleeve.
PivotTechno
The static's due to flaws in the vinyl, not because the record isn't clean - hence the VG grading. Not too worried, as mine's open to offers and I can see that someone shelled out over $200 for a copy in the same condition.
Dykes_on_Jay
I'll put one up for 149 unopened (with the original sleeve) just to spite you:P I won't really though as I have 2 of those because i love that piano.:p
No static in mine, and i beat the piss out of it.
PivotTechno
Mine was in that condition when I received it (backstory in OP*), and as much as I've tried to occasionally fit it into sets, it just doesn't move me that way. However, I will enjoy the 8-12 records on my wantlist that I'll buy with the funds from the sale of this one. :p
(*I did track down my friend, who's back and now residing in the granola-fest that is Guelph, Ont.)
