But doesn't "critical thinking" essentially mean "critique your parents' values?" I mean, you might, as I do, think that Republican "family" and religious values are a bunch of crap, but I don't see how you can disagree with them that teaching critical thinking would tend to destroy their version of "traditional values." So their fear is (IMO) justified.

Intellekshual
Heaven forbid we should actually teach our children to think and discover for themselves, lest they should begin to question the brainwashing their parents are giving them. I'm guessing the jackass who came up with this is a prime example of someone whose parents and teachers failed dismally on the critical thinking component of their education.

Whats stupid about that? They are changing the policy. Bad policy is reversed. The articles that get me are the ones where they know its bad policy but they blindly stick up for it so as to not lose face.

either you're a moron or you're a moron.

Well, in that case it's probably best to teach them not to think at all. Thinking is a gateway to critical thinking, after all. Maybe we could induce a vegetative state in all Texas schoolchildren to preserve traditional family values. Plus, it would keep the brats quiet.

I spent my entire schooling from kindergarten to graduating high school in Texas schools. We definitely already learned about abstinence when I was in high school. In fact I remember very well in 10th grade health class when the teacher asked for the definition of abstinence, being the only one to raise my hand to define it. If I remember correctly we only learned about abstinence, so I don't know what this would change.

Are you thick? This is about general education, not one specific subject.

Surely the whole point of being Human is that we are on some vast infinite journey?

The Chruch deemed medical investigation to be an abomination. If it weren't for brave critical thinkers imagining a better way, we'd still be sticking leaches on out peenus.

The very esscence of being Human is to be part of the journey, not a bystander letting the world pass you by.

It is nobody else’s responsibility to put sun screen on her kids. If she did not have a doctor’s note for her "extremely fair skinned" kids and send them with sun screen it is her fault for not sending her kids out prepared. Another example of poor parenting and playing the blame game. Stand up and be an adult. If your kids burn easy send them with sun screen. If a doctor note is required then get one. Stop expecting others to take care of your kids. Stop blaming others for your laziness.
