Steve Lawler at Stereo - last Friday (pg. 2)

Lawler is doing really well, no worries.

But yeah, if he was sick, I believe you.;-)

I was replying about the fact you mentioned the numbers of gigs per week, not that he was sick.

both you guys have valid points but I can see where one of the points effects the other, which is what artist formerly known as Creator is saying. Lawler has a dubious track record with some Montreal gigs, imo. Him and Sasha should do a marathon three hour set together at Stereo :p

for the short amount of time he played, it was really ing good. i understand what martin is saying about taking a few gigs out per week if you're feeling overly exhausted, sick, etc. but...how can you know beforehand that you're gonna get sick in the middle of a tour, you know what i mean? at least he showed up after all, right? i mean, there are quite a few djs who just wouldn't show up at all because they are sick. at least he did...

i remember when sultan changed the musical direction in his career a few years ago...his tour schedule blew up like crazy. he started changing time zones like, 3 times a week...he would do india, europe, then usa all in one week...and the whole change started taking a toll on his health...and it's not that easy to just take a few gigs out when they are booked months in advance...impossible to know that you're gonna be sick in a few months, weeks, even days you know? $60 to go to stereo on friday for lawler? what? i went with a friend who paid reduced entry at 20$; reduced is 10$ off regular entry...so 30$ is the price...35$ tops.

anyways, back to lawler...man i remember 7 years ago, on canada day 2005 when lawler played stereo w/ sean miller opening for him i believe (?) ...what a night. i can't say for sure how long steve played, but i walked outta stereo at around 1pm. that was THE night that converted me from funky chicago type stuff to the dark proggy stuff i miss so much today. definitely a defining night as an EDM fan for me...ahhhh nostalgia! was anyone that posts here there that night?

I miss his old style so much. I know he's crazy busy, but I just wish he'd release stuff of that previous style & quality under a different name.

Like I said, if he is really sick, that's fine.

But fact is, I wouldn't buy a 60$ ticket for Lawler and invest a 'nuit blanche" on him after so many bail outs.

i couldn't agree more. but as you said, he is super busy & has other priorities to attend to at the moment. he actually just moved to LA this past saturday :)

thanks for the info guys, if he was sick then I understand him leaving early (it would had been nice if he had mentioned in his posting for the day .. instead of the see you in Toronto thing), now if he went and played afterwards somewhere else, then that would be no cool.

I was so looking for this evening, and yes, for the little time he was in charge of the booth he was really good, loved the music .... last time I saw him was at Distric 36 for NYE 2012

love

I was there Erika! What a night indeed. And man oh man do i miss that style as well...However, not too long ago, a certain mutual friend of ours, who you happen to be quite close to, came and played with Maceo Plex and Maya Jane...I have to say this certain friend of ours played a very dark and lawleresque circa 2005 set, along with Plex who plays deep dark and alomost proggy too. Next time no excuses k?
:tongue3

I still think he may overbook himself.. when we party too much we sometimes get sick, so a smart partier cuts back (or finds ways to modify things that are tough on the immune system). But with edm being Lawler's livelihood, I can see why he would want to stay busy ...but I don't know if he can handle it, really (this is assuming he is missing gigs due solely to being overbooked, not from too much of something else).

Markus Schulz seems to be like a machine, howeever..he has the immune system of a cockroach.:p
