I've can program many different types, and variations of stabs, but I've never really tried to learn the cliche progressive house stab we all here.
How would I go about designing a rich stab like this? I got the chords to apply. It sounds like a pretty basic saw patch, but its so warm, and harmonically rich. any help is appreciated.
Vector A
Sawtooth waves, probably at least two or three tuned slightly different, pretty short decay, low to medium sustain, low to medium release. Filter envelope intensity not very high. 24 LP filter opened or closed to taste, not much resonance. Maybe double the octaves. Not really much in the way of effects on it, from what I can tell.
Just off the top of my head without checking.

yeah thats kind of what I was feeling.

Part of the reason it sounds warm is because the bassline is playing the same rhythm as the chords.

Oh , good call. Hadn't crossed my mind.

Yup, it's all about the splitting of frequencies.
You can achieve it quite easily within a single patch if it's played in solo, but to get it sitting in a mix you need to split the mid-highs from the bass part of the stabs.

Yes indeed. this was the annoying wall I was trying to bash open with my head for a while before finally just asking for some advice :haha:
Got a nice patch in development thats almost where I want it....only to discover I dont really feel it yet and have no desire for its use...but atleast I have it :o ...for later mebeh...

if by stab you mean pluck...then yeah I think its all about how the decay and sustain is set up in relation to modulating it with the cut off, and of course its prob a couple saw waves... and than you got the bass playing in unison....i think the bassline is actually kinda cooler.
Deillon
You need to layer that to get rich stabs. The stabs usually cover all frequencies, so layer a bass + slightly detuned saws covering more octaves. Stuff like chorus, pitch mod. and PWM can give your pluck some character.

Haha Chris Reece produced tracks (like Dinka) are always the ultimate example for any type of clean plucky progressive house music.
