The Nobel Laureate Leon Lederman coined the phrase "The God Particle" as the title of his otherwise excellent book as a way of underscoring how essential the Higgs is in our Standard Model of Physics. You can get away with that sort of hype when you're a Nobel prize winner. It also sold roughly 10 gajillion copies. He also got cutesy afterwards, and used to semi-seriously defend the name by saying that the publisher wouldn't let him call it the goddamn particle.
Awesome :stongue:

Look, you have nowhere to run, now. Scientists found God. They found what God is MADE OF. Just proof that God is real and science is wrong! Er, wa-
Actually, some nutters here in Brazil are on their way to claiming science has finally proven their concept of God is true and this is it :p

Good for them...over here a mass was broadcast on national tv where the priest told everyone there (and the country presumably since they somehow still show this crap on tv) that the higgs was discovered because it was gods will and also they they tried to discover it at CERN but they failed so got let the scientists at out local institute to discover it :wtf: Yeah...sadly i only learned of this after the fact or i would stop being my normal calm self and would be on the phone shouting at the people at the tv station why the hell they are broadcasting this stuff.
As it was, when i saw the video a day later, this was basically my reaction while watching.

I truly believe there are beings more powerful than we can imagine. If you really believe the concept of gods and aliens were all figments of human imagination, you're truly out your mind. Science has only just scratched the surface.
