Hello i wanted to share one of my last productions, i have played it a few times and it's quite a banger it sounds really banging on club systems so i am starting to think that my speakers are under representing the bass.

Any comments are welcome.

It seems like you have a lot of different ideas in this one. I don't think they have been linked together effectively. I like some of the parts but the song needs more focus.

This was my thinking, good stuff thou, if you can work around the problem of focal point, your onto a winner

Okay, ill play the again, the part from 1.08 is horrible. The synth lead is ugly and has no connection with the bassline. The kickroll at @4.25 crushes all the other sounds away, doesn't sound good.

Overall I think you need to design some better sounds, composition wise its okay.

Or listen to Targus28 and we'll see you playing at ASOT next year.

Nothing wrong with ASOT :tongue2

i give you credit because the lead synth is the common critic, a dj friend told me exactly the same so i'll have to redesign that part. In fact i usually mix it to drop at the breakdown so i am self convinced that is the weak part.

sounds like you have the midi tracks for the bass and melodic material accidentally transpose. I mean it is a mess. I mean is this a mistake ? It makes no sense what soever especially when you hear the second half which although i think is pretty weak at least doesn't sound like you were drunk at the time you hit bounce.

a few things

You treat the bongos like they are the main element of your track. Too present, too piercing, and too tonal that it is clashing , along with that melody stuff at the beginning.

The main synth needs work. It barely cuts, it sounds like you are using Vangard. And that bell doubling is just too loud. And the sound is so generic that to have it that loud just makes it that much worse.

I would sort of step back, and organize your track on paper. What is your main thing. How do you get to that. What and why. For every element because it seems like you just have things there for no reason.

I would just start with the kick and bass. They aren't happening. Get those working. You have your main hook so work on the lead sound. You aren't really adding anything melodic or harmonic of value as it is a remix so make the sounds interesting.

And prioritize. You have 2 slots in terms of what people can focus on at the same time. By having those bongos like that, well youv'e lost 50% of your structural headroom., Are those bongos really that awesome to warrant that much focus ? Percussion especially is the type of thing that can be present, then fade into back never really dissapearing because they audience has been primed. Like foley in a movie. When a scene with a jungle starts, you get the jungle sounds but they fade because you don't need to hear it anymore. People know and believe you are in a jungle.

I don't fully agree on what you say:

1) Weak synth---> Ok, i wanted something detuned and classic sounding but it's not yet effective.
2) The bongos are intentionally that dominant, this was originally a track for my sets and this is sort of a transitioning track between "simply house" and prog.house/trance. If you look closely when the bells come (which may still be a bit loud, i filtered the higher range of frequencies because it was too piercing, i agree on this it sill sounds loud for me on the higher part of the octave) the bongos disappear, i want on that part to focus the attention of the ppl on that melody. I like the jungle metaphore though i catch the idea for future productions i think you are right.

It may sound a bit generic but as i've said it's not an underground remix it's just to play it out since this is a famous track here but the original is overused and at a different bpm range of the stuff i usually play thats why i made this bootleg.

The rhythm of the lead line doesn't work well with those bongos.
