This thread reminds me of those god-awful videos on youtube of people posting their "secrets". Attention seeking 101.

Have never been one to bs for gain aka attention seeking as I think its childish behahavior anyways. Just so happens to all be true(Weird eh?) I just so happen to be someone who tries to see the positive in life as i've found that the other option just makes you feel worse and finding out you'll die at 18 makes one see things differently. Went through a period of depression and drinking etc. But in the end i realized that theres no point being sad and miserible and that was that. And the sex cult thing go look up the Family/The Children Of God

In an official statement on its origins, TFI partly describes the practice of Flirty Fishing as follows: In part as a response to the sexual liberality of the early '70s, Father David presented a more intimate and personal, voluntary form of evangelism, which became known as 'Flirty Fishing' or 'FFing.' ...Father David proposed that the boundaries of expressing God's love to others could at times go beyond just showing kindness and doing good deeds. He suggested that for those who were in dire need of physical love and affection, even sex could be used as evidence to them of the Lord's love. ...The motivation, guiding principle, and reasoning behind the FFing ministry was that through this sacrificial proof of love, some would better accept and understand God's great love for them. The goal was that they would come to believe in and receive God's own loving gift of salvation through His Son, Jesus, who gave His life for them. By this unorthodox method David felt many would find the Lord's love and salvation, who never would have otherwise. ... Although we no longer practice FFing, we believe the scriptural principles behind the ministry remain sound.

all true my mom did some ffing as it was called though it was quite shortlived thank god and i'm nolonger in. The group totally changed from what it used tobe to what it is now no longer any way almost recognizable. All the rules about sex and who you have sex with you could not drink more then 2 beers a week coulnt do drugs. Couldn't listen to to any music that wasnt made by us as it would pull you away from the lord etc. Heaps left as we grew up having spent our entire lives being home schooled etc. Around 93 we all gottaken away by social welfare and the police which was very scary for a 13 year old and told you'll never see your parents again etcbut they let go after a few weeks. A Big court case happened. Go look it up and it was also around the time of waco which although we never saw eye to eye with them and the same with most NRMS and churches. But they had a right to survive and looking on the footage they were killed quite obviously but thats another reason I thank god we're not in living in the U.S. They were using illegal CS tear gas as i recall
An interesting time to be sure and I have good memories of it all. Questions?

Hmmm...
  • Had a German imaginary friend called Kurt when I was a kid, originally from Stuttgart. I'm terrified this can be Meat187's actual name... and hometown;
  • Weirdly enough, I happen to be allergic to meat (or so it seems), and I'm a vegetarian against my will;
  • While we're at it, I really miss having chicken McNuggets;
  • The Japanese believe I'm English. But, for whatever reason, they also reckon my Japanese-blooded fiancée is from Hong Kong, so there's something clouding their judgement, and I wonder what that is;
  • My favourite coffee drink is what I call Toscaccino, Brazilian Portuguese for something like "crude-a-ccino": I just get some cold milk, coffee (the older, the better), a little sugar, and I shake it using any shakeable container I can find, such as the milk carton.

Hmm... I'm moody, but I mock my "depression" way too much to consider myself depressed :p

I've gotta say, that's pretty full-on stuff there, mate. I actually remember hearing about all this in the media, but it was years and years ago, like mid 90s or something? I'm pretty sure I was in high school at the time, lol.

Good memory yeah mid 90s. We were all over the planet and we kept running away whenever we had a problem. ahoy ahoy what in the name of god are all 90 of you doing in that house with no jobs the cops thought we were criminals. And there were some kids who ended up getting abused and a lot of people were very angry indeed. We had a lot of ex members who had spent their entire life doing something and the next thing you dont want to do something any more and just leaving was considred to be "being a systemite who had a job" and loved the world. But Australia was the first time we decided well there's nothing wrong with what we are so we fought back and we eventually won as the whole case was legal bs. We managed to get some of the best legal people like chris murphy and a bunch of other Qcs etc and it was a huge battle but their legal case was holier then us lol.

They had come kicking in our doors at 6 am at every home in Sydney and Melbourne simultaneously and they had a single police officers name on them as theyd kinda put pressure on some higher ups. Well by law who evers signs off on them has to be present and he wasnt at any. The case was total hearsay. Theyd been trying to pin stuff on us for years and i now realise that the our dear leader David Berg wasnt helping much with his sexual beliefs. But at the time of the hippies and the 60s this stuff was very out there so I actually have heaps of respect for a lot of stuff he did. He died about 1998 or something
