Very interesting read on the current state of the electronic music scene.

I'd copy/paste here but it's relatively long so here is the link:

It's fair, but my main issue with this whole debate is that producers trying to pull off live acts and marathon DJs like Tenaglia are trying to do and be something completely different to each other, so you can't really compare.

A lot of mainstream pop/rock bands will play almost identical setlists at all their tour venues, and people like Deadmau5, SHM etc are just trying to be like that. Explains also why the crowds you get at those things are totally different to what you'd get at a Tenaglia gig, or even more modern DJs who still try to take crowds on a journey and mix it up more from place to place. Unfortunately you can't really play EDM live because it relies on 'perfect' rhythms, hence the people who try to do so have to pretty much let a computer do it for them. But it's different crowds, different spectacles, totally different scenes.

What I found more abrasive about the Deadmau5 rant, and all his rants, is just how unprofessional the guy seems to be. He'd be cooler if he just kept things to himself sometimes.

I personally don't see dance music as being full of 'cheaters' now, it's just that in the last few years a new kind of club night has emerged featuring big acts who just reel off their latest album on a Macbook. People should really be smart enough to distinguish between the two, and if they could we wouldn't need to have this debate about how much 'effort' DJs/producers put into their gigs.
