Need help here
I have two technics1210m5g's and one vestax vm02xl mixer. I go to record output into the channel A in on the audio 10 and hit play on the turntable a lot of distortion comes out and the volume is way to high, even with -6db headroom and gain to the lowest. I recorded time code vinyl before and cds of course but never regular vinyl. I guess I'm in a different ballpark. If you can help it would def be appreciated. |

| Is the input on the Audio 10 set up for a line or phono level signal? It sounds like the latter, in which case the line level signal from the mixer's output will overload it. |

| The phono input was on in my audiodj10 (I think thats what caused the distortion) and when i set to line in, it records really low with good quality even with the gain at maximum. |

what sort of distortion ? grounding ? or a needle connection. Try changing the needles. , Then change the inputs. Should narrow it down. If it is still on say channel A when you reverse them , then you know it is the mixer....

line level expects a higher voltage signal so you can't actually overload using a phono input. The phono input has an integrated preamp to boost the level.
GIven that it only happens with phono, it seems like your preamp is busted. Try switching the channels. YOu can order the actual part if you know how to solder. |

| Everything is fine now, i raised the master and volume went up. I keep it low because my monitors play at high volume. The problem was that the channel in the audio10 was set to phono instead of line in |

| Your recordings will have a higher noise floor. Is it just the one channel? Using the line will up your gain staging and the preamp also adds the riaa curve so it won't sound right. I should cost too much to fix the one channel. |

Glad you got it sorted.
Looney4Clooney - he's got the 1210s plugged straight into the mixer and feeding the mixer output into the Audio 10 input so it would need to be set to line. |

| my bad. So the phono is on for the dj mixer, then you have the line input from the audiodj10. I tend to not really read as thoroughly as one should. |

Thanks for he help guys, appreciate it.
Also, looney i started using gains again because i came across a track with really low gain and it messed up my whole set, so i gotta do it from now on. |
