I didn't want to put this in the feedback section, just didn't feel right. This is my best mates latest track - he was out of producing a while and this is his first track since getting back into things.
We used to work on tracks back in school days.
Just wanted to see what people think, particularly you folk round this part of the forum who I've gotten to know.
If it's a real pisser putting it here I'll move it.
Personaly I like the vocals, especially the female but some of you experts may have something to say on this.
Out of geeky interest he has summed it through a 1993 soundcraft desk which he bought and fully restored - he's great with a soldering iron.

not sure what to say
mixing is atrocious. Track is well, it is pop and if you are doing pop, you need to sound like 2012 pop. Its almost as bad as EDM in that if you sound like last year .. well you know what i mean. This is a really bad attempt at recreating that slim shaddy rihanna tension jungle fever thing.
As a demo to showcase the female singer if she is hot and i mean really hot because her vocals are not strong or unique enough to stand on their own, its ok. Her tone is really not pleasing and would require lots and lots of processing.
One thing, structurally, this wouldn't get the green light. It needs a bridge, it needs the vocals more upfront , and all that stupid piano and other things in the back and the intro needs to be way more to the point without stating the hook as it comes back later. The hook , i mean there is one, but it isn't obvious. What i mean by that is it doesn't really slap you and say , this is the hook you ing fat 12 year, sing. And the interaction between the vocalists, i don't feel it. The words are also , well not memorable but i think that has more to do with how it is sung and mixed. I mean the simple line used to be, thats ok and you need that but the rapper, it is just a garble.
One thing i've noticed with producers is that they always put themselves before the actual talent of the track. I mean sure, you can say it is his track, but at least name the ing vocalist. Nobody is going to hear this and say , find me that producer. They will want the vocalist. If you hide that, it isn't like you are protecting your honey pot. There are lots of others that can do it. So put the female centre stage. If they make her famous, you ride the coat tail.
But ya, on its own, it sucks, but if a good producer heard this, they could easily rip it off and make it sound pop 2012 and sell it to 12 year olds. Change the singer , change the arrangement and then call pensado or whoever the mixes that ty rnb these days.
This is why people hire producers. Like actual producer , not person that producers? if that makes sense. Most people can do both. But until then, i mean as an idea for a track, its ok.

1;57 the singing sounds a bit too despirate imo a bit too nagging.
And i'm missing a main drive among the whole song.
Doesn't feel like 1 whole.
Like the raps and the female voice in the chorus.
But thats all pure taste.
Overall its a good song for that genre imo
Just doesn't have a swing or rhythm to nod that head to ,drive
But as poetry it suits its need ;)

to do pop, you have to be able to put your self into the shoes of a 12 year old girl on her period who things she is ugly. I can do that, If i was crying and wanted to listen to like music with angry sad boy stuff, this just wouldn't do it.

Sounds ghetto.

It sounds like the type of song someone would put in the background of a slideshow of pictures of their friends on the last day of high school or at camp or something.
It is forgettable and has that 'this was recorded at the local studio' kind of sound. Like has been said, I don't think the foundation is flat wrong but some things happened as it was put together that could be looked at again.

Don't worry, seems it sank in the Pacific. There were no survivors.

We played it last night to some 12 year olds, and they REALLY liked it.
I would be happy to do a remix tbh and I loved the vocals and thought it was very catchy.
Have taken down for now.
I think 'made in the local studio' comment you made is valid - it made me lol, but I think with some updating it could go somewhere.
The 12 yo's were asking if it was Plan B or Professor Green rapping.
Something we have to bare in mind about these kids is that when I play em the sorts of tracks many of us here like, they say it's lame and boring, so it's quite a different market.
