Progressive house arrangement help
View this Thread in Original format

Hey !
I am working on a progressive house track atm.
And I am almost done with my arrangement, I will just add more FX to the synths and maybe 2 "small breaks".
I would love if you could give me some guidelines how I can improve my arrangement
Notice that I havent done any EQ,mixing and mastering.
You can also give me crititcs overall, it will help alot. (But not about mastering, mix,eq)
I hope you did understand my question.
Heres my track: http://soundcloud.com/legendofdeath/something

Wasnt sure if this was the right forum section

All i hear is a melody. Kind of hard to comment on something that is without an arrangement.

Progressive house is really not about melody or chord progression. It is about textures, sounds and how they are manipulated and evolved. You have none of that. There is really nothing there yet.

an arrangement is both musical in terms of notes but also as the word suggests , having to do with your sound pallete. You have none.

I would scrap the melody. Work on your drums and bass which you also don't really have. I mean do you listen to music ? Just A/B .

Thanks for your answer:)
I DO listen to music everytime but when it comes to make it by yourself its much complicated..
I will put that project to the side atm and start a new project with focus ONLY on the arangement and just have some ty melody just to have an melody:)

most progressive house does not really have a melody. Tonal sounds maybe , but melody , not really.

Ye I agree with you but not 100%
There are tracks without melody like hardrocksofa and afrojack?
But tiesto, avicii and hardwell has often melodies.
I will practice more on the arrangement though.

progressive house isnt a genre, its an era and its dead like a decade ago.

none of those are progressive house. You are thinking of Euro Dance or commerical Trance/House

Then tell a REAL progressive house producer.
Because those that I listed is categorized as progressive house.
Maybe not afrojack

It sounds like you are going for that melodic house sound which Macarize is releasing for example.

For my taste you need to take back a lot of the top melodic stuff and work on your bottom end.
For example your kickdrum needs more punch to stand out of the mix and work very well with the bassline.

But nowadays progressive house is diffrent, So that I wrote progressive house was actually the "commercial house" I was comparing with...

It kinda annoying when someone says "I love house" but when you play a real house track they dont like it -.-
