two months in - this is pretty impressive for that amount of work.
the main issue is the structure, like it or not there is a kinda defined way in trance: intro, build, break, main section (maybe a build) then an outro is the usual order
The best way to learn this is to stick a decent track in your sequencer and use it to tell you what should happen where, this is important because DJs love things like a 32 bar intro with a slight drop at the end cause it makes it easier to mix.
Production; it's too hot - I hear a lot of distortion. a little is OK as it adds a bit of energy, but this is digital clipping distortion. use a limiter at the end of your master bus - or mix everything perfectly 9I prefer the limiter option)
It needs a more solid bass foundation to balance the hats.
what software are you using?

getting the mix right has to do with several things - in order of most important IMHO
1: sound selection - in the most basic terms, leads should have mids and highs, bass should have bass and the sounds should fit together
2: Levels - don't go too hot. when you start, the tendency is to have everything peaking at 0db - into the orange/red. if you think about your final mix, all of these elements peaking so high adding up is hard to manage. drop all of your faders by 1/3 and see a difference in your final mix.
3: EQ - don't be polite - in EDM there are no rules like only cut 3db - the only rule that I would follow is that generally it's best to cut using EQs than boost. A cut of bass on an EQ plus a level increase equals a bost of mid and high, without having to bosst in an eq.
EQ should be used to fit elements together like a jigsaw.
4: automation - it's crucial in most genres of EDM to automate not only levels but EQ and FX |

Good work and keep it up.
but atm i understand that theres some wolrk needed to be done.
i would advice you to turn down the bass and cut low frequenses like
40hz
kick good to cut at 40hz as well in fl don trust on using only one eq 2 . my advice use 2 of them and also the 3 band equalizer that exists at every mixer channel. im using fl aswell.
and dont use limiter. its just an advice its not showing the true nature of the sound makes it blurry and smashing out thing more likely.
the reverb kick thats used could be turn down in the beginning at the first second.
the bass kick could also need a fl compressor and after that you try
to max the gain to max and turn down volume almost to 4 or 6 percent. it makes it more stronger and powerfull. |
