Hi

This is just a quick heads up to recommend this product, you can get it for around £120 new so its not expensive

I know room correction is slightly controversial, and IMO its only good as the "icing on the cake", ie theres no substitute for room treatment.

For example my room, which is a smallish room that naturally sounds quite bad, already has moderate room treatment. Bass traps in corners, all first reflection points treated and good speaker/listening positions. The room still has a couple of big bumps (around 8 db) at approx 50 and 100 hz

In my room ARC just works great, its such a pleasure to have a pretty flat frequency response, without those horrible low end issues and it even compensates for a stereo imaging problem that must be caused by non symmetrical treatment in the 2 front end corners. Im really hoping this well help my tunes/mixes progress to a good level.

Any body else has any thought or experiences with room treatment/correction
:)

low end issues is not something it will do . It is pretty ing useless all round. A null is a null. No amount of boosting is going to change that. Snake oil for the lazy/retarded

ive read a lot of other similar opinions, and also quite a few positive thoughts on it (check the sos review). But all i can say is that it works well in my room doing a couple of cuts to the aforementioned bumps.

Am getting more traps but in the meantime this works well for me.

nulls are not bumps. Phase Cancellation cannot be adjusted with a simple boost.

And I'm pretty sure that issue (or a next one) also contains an advertisement for the same product ;).

Room correction is only useful in a good room. Maybe.

Even then a better room would be better.

Waste of money imo.

SOS is one big advert. To a degree, you get favorable reviews for buying advertising space. I know; I worked for a company that was the single biggest SOS advertiser and our products got serious play from them for this very reason.

Room correction is a band aid, not a cure and even then there's much better and cheaper ways to go about it. Richie is right, you can't deal with room mode issues such as phase cancellation with real time eq (which is what the ARC and other similar systems do).

i don't mind adverts. THe only problem is you don't hear about the smaller guys that have cooler stuff. I don't really care for reviews. Just the advert listing the product and its claims is as good as a review. IF it interests me , i will research it.

Thanks for replies, always interesting to hear peoples thoughts

They are peaks. I don't actually have much of a problem with nulls in my room, due to good positioning and the fact that i already have quite a considerable amount of treatment, overall the room is really quite flat for a room of its size (ive done a lot of testing with room eq wizard before and after). In fact the 2 peaks i have are around 8db, which according to Real Traps is pretty good anyway for a domestic room

"If you can get your control room flat to within +/- 10 dB, you're doing really well. And no, I'm not kidding!"

I'ts the 2 distinct peaks at 52hz and 125hz that cause the most problems. On these ive found the arc software works very well in my humble opinion.

With regards to phase, this is also not much of a problem in my room as i already mentioned i have all reflection points treated. both side walls, front wall, back wall and ceiling cloud. I also have speaker stands to try and avoid reflections form the desk.

Im normally really happy to bow to the voice of experience (of which there is plenty in this thread), but in this particular case im going to stand my ground and say that imho this software works very well in my room, and is well worth £100. Ive already spent 10 times this on treatment and the 2 work together very nicely

Thats why i wanted to recommend it (along with treatment of course) to people in a similar position to me, ie intermediate/novice in less than perfect conditions but willing to invest some time and money into getting the room right :) Afterall what is the point in having awesome speakers or trying to learn to mix in a crappy sounding room

Re the SOS ads that sounds very believable. One thing i sometimes wonder is why there are never any bad reviews?
