here's my opinion on progressive:
it has GREAT buildups, but there is no climax. like after the buildup it just goes back to the same exact beat it had going before. and it just does that OVER AND OVER AND OVER. there is no release in prog. and to me thats what makes it so "boring."
just my two cents |

I'd say:
Cass & Slide - Perception (Vocal Mix)
Sander Kleinenberg - Venus & Mars (Original Mix)

not bad as they both have some lovely vocals... :) |

Go buy a copy of Global Underground 13 - Sasha, Ibiza. |
thats what i was gonna say, this is prolly the best Global Underground
CD ever, and if you want progressive, you'll find it on the global underground cd's.
So i also recommend the gu013 by Sasha.
Then try to get a copy of Sander Kleinenberg live at Electrolux
(16-06-2002)
That set is awesome progressive. |

Don't try to 'get into' progressive if you don't like it, just because some friends say it's cool. You have to discover for yourself what you like, and don't let others talk you into something.
I for myself found out a few years ago (after listening to trance for a short while) that I like progressive a lot more..
Only listening to prog because others tell it's cool results in loads of people who don't really like the music, but listen to it because it's 'cool'. Chances are the next step is people producing cheap-ass wannabe prog just for the cash... This won't do the music any good. |
Couldnt agree more. Also too many ppl nowadays strongly believe that prog. is the next logical step after trance, thus force themselves to "get into it" . Theres no hierarchy in electronic music ffs! No top of the musical pyramide. I say: try everything out and slowly develop your own "style" and dont follow others.. |

totlly agree, i love that moment just after everything comes together in say, an uplifting trance production, and it kicks in just after the break. it's like a big energy release. you just don't get that with prog IMO. |

See thats what makes progressive so great. It never fully climaxes like a full on trance track. It slowly builds and builds keeping a nice steady pace throughout. With trance you have your buildup then the climax and then anything after the climax is just kinda bleh. Know what I mean? Ok its like sex. You know when you have been going at it with your girl for a while (probably 5 minutes for most of you...hehe) and you are both just about ready to climax...well instead of climaxing imagine having that great buildup feeling (the feeling right before you climax) the whole way through. You'd never want to stop! There is no need to "pull out" during a progressive track. You just keep bumpin n grinding all night long. Uhh ya anyway that is progressive my friend. :) |
