Anyone here from CZ (I know a few are).

I am considering applying for a job in Prague or Brno and was wondering what people's opinions are of the country and those places specifically? I have asked a few people and they have nothing but good things to say about them, but most of them were Czech so they might be a bit biased. :p

Then again if those Czech street porns are anything to go by it sounds bad ass... :stongue:

Narcism spent quite a bit of time there, I believe. I'll see if she wants to comment here.

I've been studying and working in Brno the last year, and I lived in Prague before so I can definitely tell you stuff about these places. Do you want to know something specifically?

I'm Czech so I can't give you the outsider perspective, which, I guess, would also be useful to you. I haven't talked to that many Americans who would be living here, but they mostly like it. I don't know, maybe they're just being polite :p

As I'm sure you know, Prague is the bigger of the two and if you're used to living in a city it's a much better choice. Actually, even if you're not, it still has a better infrastructure, more job opportunities, more entertainment, and ultimately more women. Brno is slightly cheaper (but not that much) and is basically a college town. The city centre is quite small, but you'll find all the basic stuff there. It's nice, just not that fancy.

What kind of job would you apply for?

I guess just what you mentioned about it, lifestyle, infrastructure, etc.

It'd be for computer programming, for gaming/simulation. It is the same company, but depending on what positions are open/what product I'd want to work on it'd be one or the other, though weighted towards Prague I guess because of the number of offices there, even though their head office is outside of Brno.

Well I guess you have to decide whether or not you want to live in a large city or not. Prague is very liveable, lots to see and do and drink ;)

Also you have to consider what kind of salary you will be on, Prague is just as expensive as any other capital city in Western Europe.

Brno is about a 3hr train ride from Prague, like Prague it attracts tourists, potentially because the Eurolines stop there with passengers, who are enroute to/from Vienna (which from memory is shorter distance than Prague). It is still a real 'lived-in' city which hasn't been spoiled - I would say the prices are about 10-20% cheaper than Prague, especially in the centre, and there is a lot to do and see.

Will you be renting, I had a few friends who had difficulty getting a rental property in Prague and it is not uncommon for them to ask for 6 months rent in advance. Some people will rent you studio apartments/rooms off the books which is a lot more expensive as you don't have to go through real estate agents.

Here's some links which compares the cost of living in both Brno: http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-livin...layCurrency=USD
Prague: http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-livin...lic&city=Prague

If you do make it to Czech, you have to visit Český Krumlov

Little Caprice (the porn star) is from Czeck. I mean, isn't this reason enough to move there?

Prague is nice and it smells like McDonalds.
