Hi.

I live in SF and recently started spinning Trance in clubs locally..
I've been spinning for house crowd since I have not much choice right now, but wanted to get into the trance crowd eventually.

I was thinking of finding smaller trance events through SFEDM.com to get started, but the site is now down... how could I get started on this? I mean there's plenty of awesome parties I can go party..but as far as trying to DJ I'm kinda lost now :S
is there any other website recommendation or any other ways to start making connections?

thx guys.

I was going to post about this but figured I'd wait for someone else. As far as events go,
sfedm has become only one tool in my arsenal. But it was an easy one for most of my friends who refused to browse the old TranceAddict event thread (which really isn't updated anymore).

Other places I check?
1) Get connected with people "in the know" on Facebook, plus fan some promoters and venues you like. You'd be surprised then how many events gets suggested to you in the "Events" tab in your FB home page. This is probably one of FB's most useful features, but it's heavily reliant on friends saying they are "attending" the event in order for you to find out about it. If FB could ever start receommending events to you based on your tastes, that would be interestting. Rich (who doesn't hang out here any more) is a great resource for House/Tech-house and techno events!

2) Subscribe to nitevibe. At least you get a weekly newsletter of some of the better events.

3) Random browsing of places like sfstation. You have to filter through a lot of club spam and weeklies, but you can find stuff. more useful if you are just trying to find something on a particular night.

4) Sign up for songkick and bandsintown. Follow a bunch of artists and SF in general.
You're going to have to sift through a lot, but at least you won't miss any headliners and and maybe you discover something new. Problem is that there is a lot of non-edm stuff.

There's not a real one-stop shop for this that I know of, and that's part of the event listings problem (or maybe there is and I'm just in the know!)

Anyone else have suggestions?

Also, as for sfedm, I don't know how you can just shut down the site, but the owners hang around on TA, and I think (as has been discussed in a thread somewhere) they try to hand-currate the listings rather than have any type of auto-posting, in order to keep the site relevant. I guess they needed some time off and don't have someone to keep it up for the time being.

hey fupaking,

I guess you're right, there's just no one-stop for all.

actually, this forum isn't that bad to check for events, or get connected either :)

I'm subscribed to SFraves email list, but seems like it's been a little dead too.. will try out nitevibe. Thanks!

SFEDM dude here...

when it comes down to it, sfedm is 90% me going to all the couple dozen local venues' and promoters' web sites a couple times a week and transcribing all the relevant info, genres, tickets links, facebook pages, etc. and it is a pain in the ass and an absolute chore with no ROI because of the small size of our scene.

at least a while ago when i made less money and went out more it was worth trading some guest list spots for a couple banner ad spots.

plenty of friends have volunteered but the quality and detail of info just wasn't there. (for example, i actually go to last.fm to look up the genres of lots of artists i'm not quite sure about).

even most promoters' submissions got annoying because most spammed by making their text ALL CAPS WITH BIG F'IN HEADLINER FIRST EVR SF SHOW OMG! TIX NOW... so it required manually editing their entry fields and thus not saving any time.

so... the site may come back as a forum... where it's going to be everyone and every promoter for themselves (good luck with that!)

or at a minimum, i was thinking maybe just making a very minimal list that has "date - headliner @ venue" and you can go find out the promoter, tix link, facebook page, guestlist, etc. all yourself...

just another era in this cycle... someone new kid needs to step up...

totally understandable on the no ROI part..

take a good break..and come back when you feel like it again :happy2:

or like you said..maybe someone will hopefully step up.

I'd suggest checking out http://geoclubbing.com/san-francisco/

Full disclosure: I'm the site's creator.

All content is focused on the EDM clubbing scene, and the source information is synced with original Facebook listings, but reorganized in a way so that's it's easy to see what's going on.

A new version will be released in a few months which allow much better targeting of events, and much more powerful ways to keep track of what's going on. But what's currently public is much better than pretty much anything else.

Making this simple for you and everyone else is why I wake up in the morning. I'd love to hear your thoughts on what a good clubbing site should be, so feel free to get in touch: [email protected]
