MIDI controller and laptop logistics

Looking around for a small 3 octave controller I found these two things:

^great if you have a tower with external keyboard and monitor but what about laptops? Anyone have any slick ideas to save space or any examples of a setup with everything right up front? (no awkward stretching or pain on the wrists)

here's an example of something completely stupid that I'm trying to avoid:

I'm thinking some kind of tiered setup but I'm having trouble finding the right thing, also my damn USB mouse broke so I'm forced to use the trackpad for the time being. Too bad it's so awkward using the laptop keyboard as a controller it would be nice having everything so compact but yeah not happening

How small do you want to go? This is only 2 octaves, but stupidly portable.

I personally also have a Korg MicroKontrol.

I love it, it takes a while to get use to the keys, though.

I'd just assume use the laptop keys instead of that, arent those keys just like buttons anyway? 3 octaves I think would be ideal, haven't found anything very small above 2 octaves :/

hmm yeah on second thought that is stupid, wouldn't feel very good resting your wrists on those black keys

does it need to be portable ?

I am wondering why you aren'y using 2 external displays, a trackpad and a wireless keyboard. I personally can't stand anything that isn't weighted. The touch of a midi keyboard disgusts me.

How about one of these badboys:

Doesn't really get more portable than that.

Doesn't need to be portable just small enough so it's not in the way of everything else

Like on a regular keyboard. Except ypu'd be accompanied by beautiful sleeve music.

Anyone have any luck with a standing desk? Something like this (dog not included)

would be much better for the back I think, I get pretty restless sitting down for long periods of time

IMO, I think a standing desk for producing is a great idea.

I think it's smart to stand and work since it helps you feel the groove of the music more when you are standing, and it keeps your blood flowing.

I'd get a high comfortable desk chair for when I'm tired though.
