maybe im just not into this kind of music anymore... sounds like every other cookie cutter vocal trance song. what makes it so special? what is new and exciting or interesting?

well vocal tune of the year. i've heard a lot this year and this one definitely stands out to me.

It's not bad, but when you go and listen to "Beautiful Things", "Flesh", "As the Rush Comes", etc. and then listen to this... if this is the best vocal trance track of the year, then that's kind of sad. Especially considering how much vocal stuff gets made these days.

I don't agree with that. Personally I think the indie rock of the past decade is far better than the grunge stuff in the 90s.
I understand a lot of it is personal preference. Nothing wrong with liking a track, and that is a good track by Markus. I just don't think it's the best vocal track of the year.
