Im very curious as to what this "biggest EDM event ever in manhattan will be in december" that he speaks of. however, i wont hold my breath for anyone good. probably just a combination of massive mainstream DJs.
and its nice to see theyre heading back to pier 94 for NYE also. |

iam hopeing carl cox is on either one lolol
cool interview tho, i hate to say it tho but pacha is right about drawing a big crowd even without booking a big dj. it may not be the best type of crowd (mostly noobs from jersey and li who dont really know about house, techno, trance) but the place is always pretty packed with them |

certainly agree. just glad to see them utilizing an amazing space like pier 94 again for NYE like last year with boris/calderone. hope to see those two somewhere again or JP stepping it up at a venue for an infamous 24 hour marathon as hes done years ago. |

| quote: | Fernandez: The old school will always have a place but my feeling is if they don't adjust that place may become smaller. It's a very fine line. If you start catering to the younger generation you may lose your core fans. DJs get older... their fans become older and they are replaced by new guys. It happens to promoters too (gulp). Many of the old school guys are DJs first who became producers, and the new generation are producers who became DJs - so it must kill a lot of the older guys to see these young kids who aren't in the same league with them as DJs now getting more bookings and more money.
But with these new young kids in the scene it is great for everybody, new school and old school, the commercial acts introduce kids to the scene and then they can discover other genres and other DJ's. There's never been a better time. I grew up in this town and was there back in the golden years of dance music in NYC and our DJs used to complain "how come all these kids like hip-hop more?" thats not the case anymore. |
I agree with the first part, but not the second. But I guess thats because I fall under that "older, core group" label. |

i know you're a big jp fan, but imo this is not a good move for him career wise
all he does now is classics and reunion parties
for the rest of his career he is gonna be known as a "has been dj"
imo he needs to get back into the studio and come out with some real quality music to get his name known again and not just for the nyc crowd but tracks that alot of dj's would support |

I mean, we all know he's got the musical sensibility and love for the underground. Would love to hear what he could do in the studio (in 2012) with the help of an engineer or co-producer that can get him up to speed with the production of today. Like Andrew said, I hope he doesn't pidgeon-hole himself into being "that classics DJ". With a little help on production, there's no way he can't put some pretty sick Drumcode or CLR style techno out there, he's got the ear for it I'm sure. |

dare i say we take these younger generation DJs and have them OPEN for one of the more classic headliners you know to help open up the younger generation to where the real music came from
Skrillex opening for Carl Cox club night. you'd get swarms of younger generations into the club and more then likely, they wont leave after skrillex opens and they'll get a taste of the big black cox |

I believe this is what Space Miami has been doing. Basically booking a popular "mainstream" act to open for the more "underground" dj. |
