My sister wants me to buy her a ticket to a Steve Angello event

Should I do it? I don't really want to. Not because I don't like the music he plays but more because I just don't like him, period. And I don't wanna encourage her to support fake trash like this. She's only 19, doesn't really know any better and likely doesn't care either, but I feel like by buying her a ticket I'd basically be saying "ok, this Steve Angello guy is legit" when I obviously feel the complete opposite.
Am I just being a dick and I should buy her a ticket like it's not my business etc...? I'd only consider it because it's her birthday and she wants to celebrate with her friends. |

| Buy her the ticket. It's not your job or your responsibility to educate her on dance music goons. If anything you'd be isolating her from having a potentially good time with her friends. Just kindly explain to her that he is a show boating poser who has only made like 3 songs, and for christ sake, it's a Steve Angello event, tell her to watch her drink. Date rape all over that . |

| Mahler's 2nd is playing at the MSO. At least she won't be getting fed E and later wrecked by 2 possibly 3 black guys. Or persian. The point i think is that it is her birth day and the only sure fire event you know that won't end up that way is my suggestion. Tell me where she is sitting. |

Better than the other way around I would say, buy it. For partying and having a good time you don't need the DJ, just the music and your friends. |

+1
She probably doesn't care. Let her go have fun. Educate her on proper music later. |

| It's not your job, responsibility, or duty to "educate" her on her musical taste. If that's what she likes, that's what she likes. Forcing your own subjective taste on her out of spite for an artist that you just don't like seems kind of childish. |

| You're right that it isn't my job, but at the same time should I encourage something I don't support? I'm not gonna try to discourage her, but should I actually encourage her to go? It's just so ing fake, this whole commercial EDM thing and DJs like Steve Angelo. I hate hate hate it. But whatever, I was gonna buy her an MP3 player for her birthday though I suppose if she wants this instead she can have it. Like all of a sudden it's cool to dance to electronic music because MTV or whatever says so. These kids would have never thought even once about going to this kind of thing a couple of years ago. |

Ehhh, think we all have been at that point (for me 23 years ago) even without MTV or Internet. Actually most over here were about 15, nowadays even starting at 12.
Does "this kind of thing" also include clubs? I was referring to clubs. |

| raves/clubs/parties whatever. I guess I just see it differently because I grew up in Israel and we used to set up parties in bomb shelters and community clubs when we were 10 years old and I first DJ'd at a real club when I was 12... |

Don't ing do it.
Last week I was flying from London to LAX.
We're in that little tunnel/walkway thing to get on the plane (me, the GF and about 4 other people) and the person in front has some kind of issue with their boarding pass so we're just patiently waiting, and up rolls Angello, walks past us and waves his business class boarding pass like he's going to stroll straight through.
At this point me and the GF produce our business class boarding passes and no way he's getting priority in front of us now with the staff, then he pulls "I've got a baby" and has an empty baby cradle with him.
It works to a degree but we get on the plane at the same time (although he passed a lot of other people before) but I just think it was a douchey move and lacked any class. We all want to get on the plane but it was just a nice show of pure self entitlement and arrogance.
I was just envisioning if the baby thing hadn't worked, we were finally going to get "don't you know who I am"? |
