Review: Art Department at Cinema

Massive line-up upon arrival at 12:45--even with our tickets. Fortunately, we snuck our way in and didn't have to miss any of Art Department.

The boys came on the decks at 1:30 and proceeded to play the sexiest, deepest, dance floor destroying house and techno I have ever heard. Goddamn, that was awesome!

For the first hour and a half, it was uncomfortably full inside Cinema. The TIFF crowd--although very good looking--does not know how to dance. It seemed that about 20% of the crowd was there to boogie and see Art Department, and the other 80% was there to create incessant traffic on the dance floor. I could only ever groove for about 15 seconds at a time before crashing into someone or having my flow disrupted in some other way. Fortunately, I decided to venture around in search for more space and I was able to carve myself a nice chunk of the floor towards the back. This is where I would spend from 2:20am onward, dancing up a storm and drenching myself in sweat.

By about 3:00am, a number of people had left and there was a lot more room in this back area. As far as I could tell, the main dance floor was still rammed. The longer the set went on, the deeper and doper Art Department got. It was my first time seeing them, and boy, did they blow me away. Around 4:00am, a crew of about 10 of my friends and I started a dance circle that was both epic and hilarious. A truly amazing night.

Music: mind-blowing: 10/10

Crowd: good looking, tons of physically attractive women, but lacking in dancing: some people just live with fear in their hearts, caring more about being seen than having a good time. The later it got, the better the crowd became.

Venue: what a ing sound system! So deep, full and banging without being overwhelming. The only party I've been to in years that I didn't feel the need to put my ear plugs in. Cool lighting and a pretty cool club, overall.

Ate a dozen eggs and some fruit at the after party. Time to sleep.

Sounds like it was quite the night from the reviews I'm hearing!
Big Boss
The last hour was ing dope. So sick! Cinema is a great spot and there was a lot of bottle service people out for the party, probably because it was TIFF.

But when the crowd cleared out and it was only the heads it was a great party.

Hmm, I expected more than two reviews for Art Department. I guess not that many TA people went?

Much as I love Art Department, not quite worth suffering through a douche club for.

i seen manufactured superstars there and i gotta tell ya i still had fun despite the douche bags and the chessy house tunes, i think it was mainly due to being with a good group of friends... i wish i went to art dept. instead thou...

but i wont go back to Cinema unless if they make it 25 or 23 plus like Cube and Maison...

This...

If they book someone decent again I'll probly check it out. But I figured the club's demographic + TIFF + 4am last call would make it an even worse crowd than normal for these places.
