My mic sounds really quiet in Live, can't figure out why? (pg. 3)

Hi RANN,
This screenshot should answer most of those questions. I'm on a self built PC with Win 7 x64.
I plugged in a crappy headset just now as well and noticed I have the exact same issue with the 2nd mic. I can't find any settings that seem to actually affect this sort of thing, and the drivers are the most recent version from what I can tell.
Let me know if I can provide any other info to help troubleshoot.

Hmm. Focusrite actually released a driver update about 8 weeks ago it looks like, just after I last checked on this issue actually.
Just cleaned out my old drivers and gave the new ones an install. It's possible I'm drunk off a placebo but I think I'm seeing some improvement. I still have to turn the gain knob up significantly but it seems things are picking up much cleaner in Ableton now with a quick test.
Thanks for prodding me to look over the drivers again, hopefully things continue to work smoothly. |

You do realize that mute is selected on channel 1?
And you should try plugging your mic in to input 3 and selecting Hi Gain, but make sure it's mono (by pressing the little double circle icon).
EDIT: one other thing is that you have to use the XLR socket on the Saffire - if you're suing a cable that has a jack on it, it will auto switch to a line inst, meaning it will be too quiet.
So you have to use an XLR to XLR cable for that mic.
Do this and report back. |

| i think hi gain means it expects hi gain. Just because the line in is parallel with that and the hi z input is parallel low gain. Anyways, Just keep that window open when you test it so you can see if the actual signal is coming in and at what amplitude and take it from there. I would try the mic input 2 first incase 1 is just a bad a connection. And read the manual. |

I'm not sure, each manufacturer labels their own differently - I'm doing this all off memory from when I did pro audio tech support 9 years ago.
I reckon it's the cable and/or the mute causing the problem.
Oh and your edits. Make an new post if you think of something new. |

But far less annoying :whip: Your internet etiquette is in sore need of a Swiss finishing school. |

| the fact that i realize crating a new post to redact or expand on something I already said shows that I care about your browsing experience. I'm just keeping my digital footprint as small as i can. GFY |

Then I say think before you post. There's nothing worse than responding to something, then finding out this source has been changed. Reeks of too much haste and not enough forethought. Bad manners too.
I worry what your table etiquette is like now.
Keeping you digital footprint small? You're the last post on at least 9 threads in the production forum right now. |

I do think. But my posts are not stagnant and i think more . They offer more. More ideas to make your experience richer. I update as much as I can. Sometimes seconds later. My table manners are impeccable. You just don't know what it is like to have brain that just randomly gives you brilliant ideas at break neck speed. I can honestly say I know of no one else that has a brain that is literally ing me on a constant basis with brilliant, mostly, ideas to share to the world.
There is nothing i do that i can't look back even 5 seconds later and think of what i could do better. It really is for your benefit.. |

So how about, you write something, and instead of immediately clicking post, just think about it for another five seconds until those two brain cells floating around in your head happen collide, and a thought occurs?
I think it has more to do with your aspergers that anything else. |

Thanks all. Yeah, I know the "M" button is on. AFAIK that just disables monitoring the signal live thru the speakers.
The manual does mention that the 3/4 inputs are for expecting Hi Gain devices such as a guitar amp, but, it's worth a shot to test for sure.
I don't have an XLR female->TRS male cable handy, I'll have to order one and see if that makes any kind of difference. I'll reply once I test it., inputs 3/4 are TRS.
RANN: Thusfar I've been using an XLR female -> male cable on the front.
L4C: Inputs 1 & 2 sound the same, btw. |
