I will listen to this now. Just get back from Illuminaughty in Manchester - one of the biggest psy-trance parties in the country, over 1,500 people turned up - and had my mind blown out the back of my skull by the breaks room. Spent the last two hours of the night in there and I don't think I've ever had more fun dancing. Was just rushing constantly.

Dude, you don't know how jealous I am. I saw Bizzare Contact post this on his Facebook yesterday. What a monster lineup.

Who all did you see that whole time?

I'm not entirely sure what this sentence is supposed to mean, but if you're asking who I saw... my memory of the night is already extremely blurry, especially as there was a lot of moving between rooms, sitting down and chatting, etc. I know I saw my friend Matt Lickess play for an hour in the bar area, I'm fairly certain I saw all of Freaked Frequency's set, which was really, really good trancey psy, I caught some of Sonic Species but his set was full of gimmicky breakdowns and was quite boring. In the breaks room I was particularly rocking to Broken Eye who were just insane, and also Leuce Rhythms earlier in the night.

Yeah, sounds like FF hasn't deviated from that trusty old morning style full-on. I really wanna see Broken Eye, holy crap. Sounds like an awesome night, mate.

Anyways, releasing a new mix tomorrow night. Let me know if you ever listen to this one.

This is pretty good. Lots of nice tracks and the flow is pretty similar to sets I've heard early on in psy nights or at lower energy floors etc. So good flow. Way too much of a headache atm to post anything more detailed.

After a couple of abortive attempts, I managed to give this a proper listen. Trouble is, as mentioned earlier, I don't really tend to listen to breaks outside a club, and so I struggled to find the right context for the music. In the end I whacked it on while I was doing some ironing and like KilldaDJ, I was dancing around my living room. You really can't beat breaks for sheer infectious rhythm.

For me, the key to a great breaks set is great flow - knowing when to change direction, when to put the hammer down, when to stop and kill the momentum. I thought you did a good job with the flow - I particularly enjoyed the dip into electro-edged robofunk with the two Beta tracks early on, followed by an acceleration of energy straight afterwards. Technically everything sounded fine - I could spot a few transitions but not in an obtrusive way.

This is still not a set I'm going to carry around on the MP3 player, but if I heard you do this in a club I would undoubtedly be on the dancefloor from start to finish.

I have to agree with system j, it was difficult to find a time to listen to this music. It wasn't quite background music and wasn't quite energetic music.

I guess I don't blame you. However, quite like your DNB mix, I would have probably found a workout or run to be the perfect time to put this on. I'm glad you were dancing around your living room though :p

Yeah, the thing that I had in mind while I was planning this set was that I wasn't sure if all of the tracks would be seen as blasters or if there would be any breaks if I were to play this at a club. I felt that tracks like Reality Grinds and Break the Dream were driving, but relatively lower energy, enough to that people would be ready for the following tracks (where I really started getting serious with More Oxygen, Dune and the tracks from Blazer).

I have to say I disagree with the last part of this sentence. What do you consider "energetic"? High tempos? Maybe you didn't listen carefully enough, or you have a different sense of what makes music energetic. I don't feel it should be compared to background music. I played this at a pretty large house party and it was received favorably.

I will probably be disregarding your review. Obviously, this set is not as energetic as my mix Advanced Weaponry where I played an entire set of twilight-style full-on at around 147-148 BPM (click on my set archive in my sig and find it if you want to listen), but I find it to have plenty of energy, to the point where I haven't heard a single psybreaks mix that matches it except Dave King's Arcadia.

Well, that's the thing. Although this mix is energetic, it's still music I would rather dance to than simply rave or fist pump. I would be more inclined to put on a blasting psy mix when running.

Stay tuned for my December mix then ;)

I don't think I've ever heard one of your full-tilt psy mixes. I've always downloaded the hybrid ones. Psy is another genre I enjoy hearing on a dancefloor (done well, of course) but not something I listen to much at home in its purer strains. Still, it does obvious work-out applications, so I will indeed stay tuned. Been lamenting the lack of genuinely high-energy mixes I have.
